Biting

Hi

Does anyone else have a problem with biting their front lip or inside of their cheeks when eating? I'm always biting myself when eating. Is this another ataxia trait or just me.

I am always biting the inside of my cheeks when eating. Very painful when you eat anything afterwards, especially citrus fruit. I blame muscle weakness that we all seem to suffer from.

I had biting issue very occasionally but has overcome by a trick while eating.

Eat slowly and with focus. Keep your lips joined while eating any thing. Hope this works!

Yes, I used to have a big problem with that, due to a tightening, seizing up, of jaw muscles/tendons. After the Doc put me on Sinemet ( for Parkinson’s Disease ), I haven’t had a recurrence of the problem.

Hi!

I have Fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS), with parkinsonism in my case. Since the past year, I started biting the inside of my cheeks frequently too. I thought, it was because I loosed a lot of weight times ago. It's very painful and eating slowly can help.

Yes, I'm always biting the inside of my mouth while eating and blame this on having ataxia (due to Niemann Pick C disease) for 20+ years. Eating slowly seems to help me! I also take small sips of water between bites!

My dentist said it was common to bite inner cheeks at night. This. Then swells and easy to bite when eating. So I make sure all is in place when I go to bed. I inflate cheeks!

Post script to my post of a few days ago. I think that the dentist deals with this problem quite regularly. It is not only an ataxic problem but a ageing one as well! We can't win!
