What’s dose ataxia feel like ?

GlutenLadYorkshire profile image

I’m asking what dose ataxia feel like as I have suspected gluten ataxia I can do most things normally except I struggle with tandem walking, I have a normal gait, I can stand close my eyes without swaying all my other blood test lumber puncher were remarkable also were my mri and ct scans. I’m a bit worried of any diagnosis as it might effect the rest of my working life as I was a long distance lorry’ driver if I can’t get my hgv I can’t work and then I’ll have to sell my home, depression and anxiety has kick in, I also have celiac disease which isn’t a issue unless it’s caused gluten ataxia.

it varies. for me, ataxia is: an internal wobbliness (if that makes sense, not a tremor, but an instability), torso instability, the assumed ataxic gait (wide apart feet, more lurching the closer my feet are together), and yes, I fall over if I shut my eyes with my feet together. have you had any follow up testing to determine which type of ataxia you may have?

Thanks for your feedback I don’t suffer as much as others my only problem is the heel to toe walk is unstable a bit, they suspect ataxia but still not diagnosed I had mri’s that are remarkable and blood test are all fine and a lumber puncher that was ok too, I don’t have any internal wobbliness or other gait issues I did have problems last year that improved I had an ataxia gait and slurred speech when I had an ear infection

My Ataxia affects me when I am standing and using a computer.

Also I get very tied/fatigued.

Balance, walking, coordination when standing.

Other times visually processing, sound processing, brain fog and bad memory.

It might just be the start of it. It can take years to get bad.

Best to get it checked out.
