Had a visit to physio yesterday and he's given me different excersise to do as I felt the others I had wasn't pushing me enough. Last night I kept bumping in to things, not so bad now, I don't want to put myself in a wheelchair yet as I feel I'll get too dependent on it and take the easy option.

Kudos to you! Exercise really does help! My best to you..., ;o)
Mine are called ‘Otago’ balance exercises. When first given them, I thought they were too easy and felt a bit of a fraudster. Now, it’s like climbing a mountain!
totally agree, I am also trying to avoid the wheel chair...………… bumping into things could be caused by being tired after trying new exercises, keep going
Hi Maridale, One tip that I find helps before I stand up, I strech my arms, upper torso and legs an the carefuly start moving. I find it helps not to bump into things. Some how that helps to wake up my muscles.
best wishes
Isabel
Why wait to be told what exercise to do, surely you'd be better to challenge yourself. Most of it is muscle memory, so give your muscles something to remember.
There is scientific research showing that following a program of exercise designed for people with Ataxia can reset your body by 2 years. I will find the study and report back. You might ask your doctor to prescribe it as therapy. There is another study that showed walking on a treadmill while supported (perhaps holding the rails) improved the gait of ataxic patients
Thank you sunvox, and thank you for all of your informative posts. You have done so much research, and shared so much invaluable info with the rest of us, I just wanted to let you know how much your input is appreciated.
I have looked into treadmills at my local gym but sadly they are upstairs and they haven't got a lift so that's out
Exercise is only worth doing if at the end of it you are breathing heavily and sweating,I also don't want to rely on a wheelchair,so I only use it when I go out(I find it easier)
This isn’t what I was thinking of but I think it’s actually more relevant:
