Liver Damage

Hello, I am looking for some advice please. I was diagnosed in 2011 with Ataxia but seems like I have had it from when I was born. I am being treated for liver damage which is the 2nd time in the last few years, is there any link to Ataxia ? Losing my mind a bit at the moment x

Liver damage may be caused by 2 things mainly 1 due to alcohol and 2 might be caused by cholesterol or by medication. We can avoid alcohol and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent fatty liver but unfortunately we cannot prevent damage that comes from prescribed medication. It is very important to be careful and follow our Dr s advice as they are the only once that can lead us to overcome these problems.

Thanks for your reply, this is the 2nd time in 4 years. It probably is one of medication but was wondering if there is a connection xx

It is very difficult to connect these problems with Ataxia. This condition is so rare that only very few research studies were done comparing this to other conditions. Personally I am a parent of a 19 year old girl with ataxia and the problem leading to this for my daughter was only identified on around 20 other persons in all the world. So you can realise that in this situation we are completely alone and very far away from ataxia centres. The most important thing for my daughter was her determination not to let this problem put her down. She was determined not to use a wheelchair and she never did. she lost the use of her hand due to tremors but she is still determined to become an arts teacher, now she found a way how to control her hands and started studying once again. So what I want to say with this is HAVE COURAGE. You can't get someone else to fight this condition for you. So be proud of who you are and always take life day by day. I also feel in the same boat you are. I also have severe liver damage due to the medication I take but what I believe in that if I worry about what happened yesterday or preoccupy myself on what may Happen tomorrow I will lose today. So I try to keep my spirits high enjoy life and my children and try to keep my family happy. Sometimes this would be difficult true but if you do your best you will have a better life.Good luck
