what test do you get to check your thyroid properly

what kind of tests do you get for thyroid disease and have a proper check
It's a simple blood test, which will show if you have an underactvie or overactive thyroid. If it's underactive it will mean taking a tablet every day.
The correct testing is TSH - FT4 - FT3
To rule out Hashimotos you will need tests for Anti-bodies TPO & Tg
Sadly the NHS will only test the TSH which is a Pituitary hormone and tells you very little about how the thyroid is working. Hashimotos is auto-immune and the most common thyroid issue globally. Agan only the TPO tested so thousands are missed.
I have Hashimotos and have been a member of Thyroid UK here on HU for over six years so happy to help 😊
With low thyroid the following also need testing and need to be optimal and not bumping along the bottom of the range. B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD .... if low can mimic other conditions.

😏 My hair has become lank, and has started falling out, my weight has ballooned and there are other worrying signs. Yesterday I asked my Neurologist (because I was at the clinic) to do a blood test because I suspect I may be Hypothyroid. The last one I had was several years ago and had been done by my GP. All I found out was that ‘I was within range’ and the reading was 2.11 🙄
I realise how critical it is to test appropriately, fingers crossed it’s done right this time 🙂 xB
