Hi Pete, welcome😊
I was first told of a 'problem' in 2000. But it wasn't until 2011 that SCA was definitely
diagnosed.
Most of the time I rely on a walking stick when outdoors but I also have a rollator for really 'off' days 🙄
I'm fellow northerner, from Newcastle 😊 xB
Hi Pete,
I've had SCA2 for about 10 years (although only officially diagnosed last year). I'm 43, walk with a rollator and have had to take ill health retirement from work. I live near London.
Hi Pete,
Like you, I am 61 and from over the Pennines. I have had balance issues for around seven years now and have been using a stick for the past three years. I have not had a definite SCA diagnosis. I have found this site very helpful and supportive.
Good Luck!
Dear Pete, I'll be 62 years young on the 23rd of this month and my story mirrors yours! I live in the US in the State of Michigan. I was diagnosed with Sporadic Cerebellar Ataxia (so far, unknown cause, symptoms 24/7) twelve years ago, although I had very minor symptoms starting about eight years before diagnosis. So, like you, that would be about 20 years. I walked for several years unaided, until I took a bad fall, severely injuring my back. Therefore, I started using a cane when I go out of my house, but am still able to walk, extremely carefully, in my home without it (should use it IN my house also, as I've fallen occasionally, sometimes hurting myself...,duh!). I use an Access Active Rollator for pleasure walks outside, weather permitting. Anyway, hello to you too, from across the pond...,ha! My best to you..., ;o)
Hello there Pete,
I'm Lorrraine whos 62 just,i have the same as you but no number as yet. Like you walking stick then the rollater but no wheelchair as yet,my nueroglist has said I will be using my rollater for many years to come but my balance has greatly worsened so this I don't believe this , but I do believe in being posieve, so very good luck to you. My spelling not good so sorry--I live in Hampshire so a long way from you.
Hi, Pete
Welcome to the site!
I'm 69 and was officially diagnosed with cerebellar ataxia in 2014, but had
been having balance issues since 2010. I always use my walking stick, but do have a rollator in case I intend to go a bit further. Fortunately I'm still driving so that gives me some independence. Do you have family or live alone? I live in East Yorkshire, Hull, but have cousins who were brought up in Leeds, and now live in the Wakefield area.
All the best,
Ann (2rayvon4)
Hi, I am 70 years old, diagnosed about 10 years ago, so far I am still ok.
