As part of my continuing search for ways to combat SCA I have invested in some new tech.
In the USA the army has taken over research into the use of the Pons machine developed to utilise the brain's natural ability to change and grow. (Known as plasticity). The device is also being developed for use by doctors and therapists in Canada, but not available yet. The initial testing of this technology has shown very positive results for ataxia, Parkinson's and other neuro conditions. The team developing it includes a Russian scientist, who has had experience of the many healing systems developed over there which have not got wide use over here (the west). One of these devices, called scenar, is available here, but is only used for pain relief and healing of bones and other such ailments. At which it is very good. I considered using a scenar to develop some ways of harnessing its feedback system to accelerate the plasticity of my brain in resetting my wobbliness and improving my speech. In searching out a source I have come across a German made device based on the scenar, but made in Germany not Russia. This makes a substantial difference! I expect it to arrive on Tuesday. Again this is only licenced for use on pain. But as I Intend to use it for my own research purposes I have no need of a licence! this has blown my budget for the moment, which is a shame, as I have come across another bit of tech to help with voice feedback. A pair of headphones, which don't cover the ears but press on the bones of the head. There is a bOx attached which does something useful in providing feedback. This is based on the work done by Alfred Tomatis. To find out more just google his name. If I can help my wife Jenny with her arthritis I may be allowed to buy this later!
I'll report back in due time.
Meanwhile Happy New Year to all of you and I hope 2016 is the year you see improvement in your own ataxia, or at the very least peg it back from getting any worse.
