I have Friderichs Ataxia and use a wheelchair. I get very bad chilblains paticularly in my feet not helped by my poor circulation. Does anyone have any suggestions?

try not to rub or scratch them, if become infected you will need to see doctor for antibiotics. Try to move your feet when sat to keep circulation going and maybe try raising your feet when sat, got husband thermal socks to wear as his feet were always cold and he has a recliner chair which he raises feet from floor level. generally just ensure you are keeping warm and avoid putting feet in hot water or hot water bottle to quickly heat feet as warming skin quickly can cause chilblains, Have you spoke to your gp

Hi

I also get incredibly cold feet but have never had chilblains. I wear Ugg boots a lot of the time and although my feet can still fell very cold and I think the boots are not helping, it is very noticeable how much they are in fact helping when I take them off! I wear socks when in bed as well. I think it is helpful not to let your feet get cold as it can be incredibly difficult to warm them up. Try and keep them as warm as possible all the time.

I experienced Chilblains as a child and can confirm they can be very painful. They are a bit like blisters caused by changes in hot and cold. For example, if you get out of a warm bed and put your feet on a very cold floor, you can cause chilblains.

It is not just cold that causes them, but the sudden drop in temperature.

I used to try an ensure I had slippers next to bed and then put them on before standing up.
