Fostair 200/6

Hello, I’m a 73 year old ‘newbie to this group who, following a CT Scan, was recently diagnosed with ‘Late Adult Onset Asthma’ - that appears to be railing against being kept under control. We’ve been through the ‘let’s try this’ scenario that has included prednisone, Ventolin and Qvar. A private consultation with a respiratory specialist has resulted in my inhaler being upped to a Fostair 200/6 - and a recommendation to my GP that I am referred to the Respiratory Clinic at my local hospital for a full round of pulmonary function testing, as well as all sorts of other tests, as he also suspects that as well as the Asthma, the ‘tree in bud’ appearance on the CT scan could be related to non tuberculosis mycobacteria....and I may have some type of fungal sensitisation and possibly a persistent grumbling infection. I have only just started on the Fostair 200/6 and I’m wondering how long it takes to show signs of effectiveness....as the continued breathlessness and incredible tightness around the ribcage is becoming rather tedious now. Any help would be truly appreciated.....thank you.

Hi, I have fostair and found that when I was first prescribed it that it was a month before I felt the full benefit. I hope that it helps you. It's good that you have been referred for more extensive tests. Best wishes.

Thank you so much for both your kind response - and the best wishes - which really are truly appreciated. Hopefully, during the next month, things will slowly begin to feel better. If I can get rid of the persistent tightness and the breathlessness, I can deal with the rest... ~<|

I too have late onset asthma but complicated by having emphysema too. I had many different inhalers and several courses of prednisolone before finding that the fostair worked well for me. I also use it via a spacer which helps it to get into the lungs more effectively. It would be worth asking your GP to prescribe one for you if you don't already have one.

Thank you again... I do have a spacer and am using it. The private consultant also mentioned that it was the most effective way of getting the medication to where it needs to go in order to fight the small airways disease. I really do appreciate your kindness...and truly hope that you get the relief you need for both the emphysema and the asthma.

Hi my fostair was increased to this for a while and then taken off it. Did not make to much difference told it would effect immune system and lowerd back down. Every person is a different case and i am sure they will get it right. It just takes time and getting the right medication to suit you. HOPE YOU FEEL GOOD SOON.

Thank you so much for your input, it is really appreciated. The change over to Fostair 200/6 was, literally a few days ago - and guess I was hoping for some miraculous change overnight. Obviously, that wasn’t going to happen but, with luck, things may improve soon. I’m ever hopeful... The consultant said the aim of the Fostair was to get me somewhat more comfortable - at least until the Doctor could get me seen at the hospital....
