What to do? Preventer Inhaler

Hi Guys

Sorry I haven't been around for awhile, life has been hectic.

Anyway my inhaler has run out or so I believe, as I have cleaned out the case (by switching to a clean one), and I no longer feel a puff, as hardly see anything when I remember to use the spacer.

Problem is that I cannot order another inhaler for two weeks (and that's with it being a month before it's suppose to be next due). I've got an appointment with the asthma nurse on Thursday, to get a new prescription.

This one was new in beginning of Nov.

Could this be a problem with my inhaler, according to my calc's I would be pushing using it for another two weeks, till I can get my prescription. (Though my calc's could be wrong).

Or should I be asking for my prescription time to be shortened. Luckily, even with this cold weather, I've barely touched my ventolin, so I know that I've got that to rely on for the time being.

I would discuss it with the asthma nurse on thursday. You could ask for a repeat prescription that either can be renewed more ften and/or you get more than one preventer er prescription.

I hope it gets sorted ok.

Definitely ask for one, it's not good to go without (haha I know, I'm a hypocrite!). It may be the inhaler that's gone weird, I have a ventolin that I've used no more than 20 times but it's refusing to work, even in another case. So tempted to go and get my money back!

Can you not renew online or something and just put a note on to say it's stopped working before it should have? Alternatively, take the inhaler and ask the nurse what she thinks.

Glad you're doing well atm :)

I can't renew online, as according to my account it's not due to be renew, for another two weeks & that is at the earliest.

If it's not working you need to get a repeat prescription asap.

What Rose said `I would discuss it with the asthma nurse on thursday. You could ask for a repeat prescription that either can be renewed more often and/or you get more than one preventer er prescription.`

and ask for a prescription for now on Thursday, they can`t leave you without

good luck

for both my inhalers I can get a repeat prescription when I need it

UPDATE 18th Jan

Seen the Asthma Nurse - was given a new prescription for a preventer. Though was given a lecturer about mis-using the inhaler, apparently 4puffs a days, should see me over 2mths. OK so 200/4 = 50days. So my understanding means that's about 1 1/2 months.

If it happens again I will be seeing the GP in regards to shortening the prescription - However I am due to see the GP on the 28th for an unrelated issue. So might just ask.

Crystal, when you see the GP on the 28th do ask and show the GP the maths, it beggars belief that the nurse can`t do a simple sum like that and it is shameful that it will affect your health so badly to be without that inhaler - sigh

I hope you get them to see sense

I will, luckily because of the cold weather, I've stayed indoors, so have avoided getting any serious symptons, by luck I work from home. But avoided exercise, which in this weather, is no bad thing.
