I’ve been on Symbicort 200/6 Turbohaler (plus other meds) for the last 18 months or so.
I wonder if anyone else finds that they get the shakes for a couple of days when using a newly opened inhaler ? Once the inhaler has been opened and used for a 3 or 4 days this seems to stop. As soon as I start the next inhaler, the shakes are back. I’ve tried swapping to a fresh inhaler when half way through one and the same happens.
I am on the MART regime so need to carry my turbohaler with me at all times and as I work outside it can be exposed to changes in temperatures/humidity etc. I always ensure the cap is tightly fastened but wonder if its efficacy is being affected?
Does anyone else find the same or is it just me ?

I used to be on Symbicort Turbo 200/6 and for a time used it on MART, but I never experienced shakes, even with a new inhaler. I know the aerosol inhalers can hold up to 200 medication doses but up to 300 propellant doses, which could cause issues if not properly mixed by shaking before use, but this shouldn't happen with a dry powder inhaler as the carrier is already pre-mixed with the medication.
There have been studies on how dry powder meds are effected by humidity and you do suggest that this could be the factor in the decreased efficacy of your inhaler. This article highlights the potential issues;
Thanks Poobah - I’ll take a look at the link. I’m currently waiting for an appointment with a tertiary severe asthma clinic so will mention it to them when I eventually get seen.
I have never had that issue & been on symbicort for a lot of years, the only thing I find is I get mouth Ulcers from time to tim. Check with your GP or consultant or even pharmacist.
Hi flowerjunky , I'm Mez 1 , I have been on symbicort for , ages now , and don't have the shakes . I do have swollen ankles, due to two medications I have to take, one of these is symbicort. I used to have the shakes when I used to be on dry powder salbutamol , which they stopped making a few years ago. But salbutamol is known for the shakes. I keep my inhaler in a very small black camera zip case in my rucksack.
Hi, I used to get the shakes on symbicort turbo inhaler but since I had it changed to Symbicort pressurised inhaler I don't get the shakes. It agrees with me much better. 7974 pam
