Allergic reaction To preventer inhaler

I have been on Symbicort pressurised inhaler for over 3 years but am Now getting side effects of pins & needles in my lips and fingers. I have eliminatedall my other medication and tried fostair and ellipta and they too are causing the same. Can anyone advise me of any other inhaler that does not contain formoterol fumerate as this would be a really big help. Or any advice you could give. Thank you 7974pam

Relvar Ellipta doesn’t contain formoterol.. maybe worth a try 🤷‍♂️

Hi Pam7974. I attach a poster of all the available inhalers in the UK, I hope it helps you identify alternatives.

Some asthma inhalers do warn that low potassium may occur and one of the results can be pins & needles. Patient leaflets that come with those inhalers do suggest that the doctor monitor for low potassium, as a deficiency isn't good.

You may want to discuss your options with one of the Asthma UK nurses before seeking a change in your preventer inhaler; they're very helpful. The helpline is open Mon to Fri, 9 to 5, on 00300 222 5800.

could it be the propellant rather than the medication if you are having trouble with different inhalers

I have been on Relvar Ellipta (fluticasone furoate/vilanterol) for a number of years now, and I have never experienced any of your problems. Perhaps it will work for you.

It's worth looking at leaflet with ingredients list

Check with the pharmacist /chemist for info. What times they seem to know more than the doctors and nurses period.

My cramp is everywhere with all these inhalers but the pressurised Symbicort I have now banned as I've ended up with very sore airways. I can't really pin it down but I insist on the powder form now and have to sick to 2 shots a day.Its bad and the consultants see it as trivial but I can't walk anywhere now without pain in the main airway. I bought an air monitor as I live in traffic but no pollution.It can only be inhalers or lack of it and I've no idea which. If I take the pressurised version now after 4 years of it, I feel like I'm going down with bronchitus but not with powder.
