Over Done it Again.

Yesterday was such a beautiful sunny day, we don't get too many of those this time of year, so action had to be taken. First it was off the breathe easy followed by an INR blood test by my brilliant nurse Linda. Oh dear, INR had dropped from 2.2 too 1.5 and was probably caused from me loseing weight too quickly. Well my transplant consultant has asked me to lose weight and he said the only way is to eat less, so thats what Iv'e done. I have dropped 7lbs in a week which supprised me somewhat but stupidly I forgot what this could do to my INR. Well now the nurse has made an appointment for me to talk to the doctor about loseing weight more slowly, Whoops! Im in trouble again. Never mind I then went home and thought, right that lawn needs mowing, so dug the mower out of the overfilled garage and away to go. It was a little harder than I thought it was going to be but after a whole lot of huffing and puffing and a few pit stops it was done and looked good. It also cleared my lungs of what seemed like a gallon of mucus. The neighbours probably did'nt enjoy listening to that but they know of my problems so hopefully understand. Anyway there was a creeping vine that needed to be cut back as its weight was pulling down the fence beween us and next door so I then attacked that with some cutters, more coughing and spluttering, huffing and puffing but eventually the job was done and so was I. Well is it any supprise to anybody else reading this blog that today I am knackered, completley useless, Im in zombie land where I deserve to be because once again Iv'e gone and 'over done it again' . I always fall into the same old trap of going over the top on a good day and paying for it the next. I know I'm a first class idiot but I won't stop me doing it again I'm sure. Can anybody give me some wise words on how to stop this crazy thing from happening again and again and again please. Whats the matter with me? Ha Ha Ha I'm sure they'll be 'coming to take me away' for my own good soon.

It seems we are our own worst enemy sometimes Puff, common sense should kick in but 'no' same old, same old. I know I'm doing wrong but refuse to listen to the little voice thats telling me to back off. crazy ain't it!!!

You achieved a massive amount! But yes, you did too much. Perhaps the vine or the lawn, but not both. Don't stop trying to do things though, it's important exercise, but try to pace it a bit more.

I have a list (ok, it's probably a bit sad to admit that) but I write it every Sunday and its all the things I want to do in the week ahead. So it might include job related stuff, but also things like 'weed flower bed by wall' and 'clean windows' I pace the jobs throughout the week and feel a sense of achievement if I get them done. Main things though, don't have an unrealistic amount on the list and on a bad day say 'bugger the list'.

That actually is'nt sad Lnne, a list is not a bad idea, Think I'll name it the bugger it, to do list :). Tonyxx

I have a memory book which is full of things |I might forget and things to do. Big buzz when I tick something. Even the colour is bright pink in case I cant remember where I put the book.

My partner does a list and it's very helpful. She updates it every day so it's not sad. Big companies can't run without lists.

The list is the way to go, me thinks. Sad or not if it works and stops me from repeating this stupid mistake again It will be worth trying. Thanks PtMD. (ps as the song goes do you live by the sea) :)

I do live by the sea actually ! Call me Puff. Most do ! :}

Dall05 you obviously have a heart like a lion if I'm allowed the metaphor.

Bravo and well done - but do try to pace yourself - and well done again.

Keep on keeping on

I may have the heart of a lion but matched with the lungs of a hampster its rather waisted don't you think!! . A formula 1 engine in a Hillman Imp eh' :) Dont worry keeping on keeping on is my intention. Thanks Homebreeze.

You made me smile Dall, we all still try and do everything at once. I have always been houseproud, which has taken a beating recently, but my gran always used to say "do what you can; the rest will not run away and will be waiting for you tomorrow".

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to

Glad I'm not alone in overdoing things when I'm feeling good. Your absolutly right there is always tomorrow and I must learn to listen to those around me, then I might not hear 'I told you so' as often.

I know the feeling. Your brain is thinking like an athlete's brain but the body cant keep up with the brain if you get my meaning. I look at the garden and think of the times I used to potter around happily. Best to do a little bit each day. Enjoy the little you are doing and then stop. We have tried to make the garden very low maintenance. In fact I have a list of useful addresses for jobs around he house.

I get your meaning annie80. I'm likeing some of the words you have used, potter, low maintainance, I must learn to put these into practice more often. :)

Oh wow ! ........what are you like dall !!! *slaps dall on wrist* lol

Kudos to you though for doing all that work. Can you not tell yourself - next time you're on a "do too much bender" that you'll pay for it on the morrow if you don't go steady? Just remind yourself of how you're feeling right now and that you DON'T want to feel that way again :)

Alternatively, come on here halfway through your task(s) so that we can all SHOUT AT YOU TO STOP !!! Hahahahahahahahaha :)

Love you really xx

keep on keeping on ..........

I'll plug the computer into the Hi Fi and turn the volume up so I can hear you all shout. Hopefully that will work next time the sun shines and I feel good. Thanks elian :)

Hi Dall05, I`m like that, go beserk one day doing loads and next just can`t do anything much. I did some gardening daybefore yesterday and wore my O2 when doing it, had to be a bit careful when snipping stuff away with secateurs as thought I might end up snipping the 02 tubing. Yesterday, I walked to shops and then spent all afternoon cooking etc and was so tired at end of it and feeling shattered still today. Thats a good idea Lynne about the list, think I might pinch that idea if you don`t mind.

I do feel under pressure to do things as hubby can be a bit funny about cleaning (he has told me that he won`t decorate as I don`t keep the house clean enough) I don`t think he believes I have something wrong with me. Last year when I could`nt cope with heat etc in Greece he told me I had bought it all on myself so not a lot of sympathy there.

Take care Dall05,

It sounds as if you should be getting a little more support from hubby, he's probably in some kind of denile and is hopeing that things will return to how they were before your illness. Anyway Boodles it sounds as though you are as stupid as me when it comes to paceing yourself, we need to learn to cruise a little rather than the full throttle and collapse approach. This way maybe we can have a good week instead of a good day. Lets give it a try eh' :) good luck! Tony.

Its a shame that your husband doesn't read all the messages in this forum. He would learn a lot. His attitude is caused by ignorance.

You and Pete both dall05! You just never know your limitations because the old adrenalin keeps on pumping away and does not stop even when you do. I have seen Pete happy as anything outside maybe on a good day doing things then the next day, knackered and can hardly move! You just need to know your limitations before the men in white coats come to cart you off! Can they pick Pete up on the way maybe? xxxxxxxx

Sounds like me and Pete would make good room mates at the funny farm. Of course I blame the ladies in our lives for letting us over do it in the first place. Ha Ha Ha!!!

Cut it down to 9 holes and make um wait behind. I used to play tennis a few times a week and would love to now but I just cant run without turning purple and sounding like an old steam train. Even the 80 year olds at my old club can run rings around me and I'm only 53. Your right though in pushing yourself because once you stop you'll probably never play again. I do my best to keep fit by attending breathe easy classes and doing lots of slow walks and home exercise. I may get on the lung transplant list by the end of the month so look out Andy Murry you may have some competition soon for the British no 1 !!!. :) Dont give in George68

Thanks Dall05. One of the things on my to do/wish list is to ride a a horse this year, admittedly it will have to be a plod around instead of gallop but just to sit on a horse again, BLISS.

My husband has booked me a 'jet ski experience' for when the weather gets better...I just hope ill be able to hold its weight!

Your a brave lady for wanting to climb aboard one of those things. Iv'e pony trekked across the Welsh Black Mountains years ago and only just survived that. On that trip a teacher was thrown off at speed and a friend fell off and was kicked in the head so I hav'nt bothered since. My wife loves horse riding even though she has had some very nasty falls, some people just never learn!!. I hope you get your horse ride boodles on a nice sunny day, good luck :)

3 days on and I think Iv'e just about recovered. What an idiot I was, still I'm safe for a while as the weather looks like its going to be pretty bad. The gardens on the back burner just for now and transplant assessment part 2 looms on the 25th so maybe its feet up time and take no chances. 'Wise' and Dall05 don't seem to go together King.
