With me, it when the adverts come on, they are so loud in comparison. I'm constantly reaching for the remote to turn it down. My sister told me that if you are having trouble distinguishing voices from the background noise/music in programmes then it might be time to go for a hearing test (she has that problem too). I've noticed myself in American programmes the woman all seem to talk from the back of the throat to make it sound husky, this drives me mad too, it's irritating to hear and also makes it difficult to work out what they're saying. You never used to hear American women talking like that in days gone by. It's an affectation I can do without. Libby x

I think that the background music is in keeping with the time that C the M was set. Not sure that all mothers deliver so noisily. But then a lot of plays and serials involve shouting. Lot to be said for the subtitles but then husband complains about them. The C the M books by Jennifer Worth are a good read, but in order. Annie80

Hey Libby, I sound husky after I've used my inhaler. I was quite pleased lol.

I love call the midwife, but the music doesn't bother me. As for programmes with adverts, I record nearly everything that I want to see on the PVR. That way if someone phones, it's not a problem. It also means I can wind through the adverts.
