Another phone call to watch out for

This week I had a phone call from a company who supply solar panels, saying the government are allowing free assessments for installation to possibly save money on fuel bills. The last government initiative was supposed to be endorsing foam spray insulation which in my case turned out to be a miss sell and I am still waiting for solicitors to get my money back plus compensation to repair my loft. So do take care , the stress these calls cause & cost can cause deterioration in your health at our age. If we need details of such things we can ring up ourselves or our families.

Thank you for the heads up Katie and I hope you will get your money back from the insulation being miss sold. Take care xxx

I always distrust companies which say the Government is giving grants for this or that. It obviously pays to have a nasty suspicious mind, not to mention an empty purse. I'm sorry you're having trouble with a foam insulation company. On the surface this sounds like an excellent idea for keeping a house warm. Hope the solicitors get your money back soon. xxx

We've had companies offering solar panels and cavity wall insulation. I let them go through all their spiel and waste a good few minutes of their time ... before I point out that we live in a listed building in a conservation area and aren't allowed to have any of it. 😁 The only time I find these calls stressful is when there's rugby on the telly.

Hi katieoxo60,

Yep know all about that. Good luck. I am going through a similar thing at the moment with a contractor for installation of solar panels. We paid £5330 back last August and still the work hasn't started. The only difference though is ours was not a reference to government involvement .... I made my own decision based on my own research. The only comforting thing I have is that the contractor still stays in touch with updates.

In my case I think my guy is cursed with an unrealiable workforce and he is a sole trader. I have now given him final notice in intention to request a full refund if work is not completed by 8 February 2023.

Hope your solicitors work well for you.

John

Sorry to hear you have a delay with work commencing, why did you have to pay upfront ? normally they only take deposits but in these unfortunate times many have to take money in advance as they need the work and cash. Its become a nightmare and as you say many companies are strapped for cash as well as workmen. Hope it soon comes together.

some years ago had insulation for walls with fibreglass. husband worked for fibreglass at the time and this was available to employees they did have a shop too were products were discounted . some different insulation was used on flat roof when it was resurfaced .husband arranged all this but when government was promoting a few years ago it a number of private houses in this block were done and the company involved would not accept that mine had been done years earlier .but havent got certificate which is a pain . have got roof details but not the walls .

hope you get your compensation paid not by cheque but into bank account as there seems to be a fraud with cheques going astray reported on radio 4 this am.

I just tell them they will be lucky I live in a ground floor apartment. They leave me alone then. I’ve had a couple in the last few days telling me this is a bank security alert. If and that’s a big word. If I believed it I would be ringing my bank not talking to them. Xx
