thanks for the info. I have a gut feeling about anything like that + phonecalls + door callers. Anything that threatens my purse!!
Thanks Sweething. Marilyn. x
If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is...
You don't get owt for nowt (good old Yorkshire saying!)
Other useful tips - if someone telephones you and asks you to confirm your name, address and so on before they can speak with you - ask yourself WHY? Do you give personal details to any stranger just because they say you must confirm these? The Data Protection Act is there to protect YOUR data, not to allow any Tom, Dick or Harry to (mis)use the Act as a means of getting you to give them information that they could then use to commit fraud. Not so often you hear from Tom or Harry, nearly always the other bloke that tries this on...
Ask your local Community Policing team to supply 'no cold caller' stickers for your door, or contact Trading Standards, some offer 'Doorstep Traders Not Welcome' stickers. Even if a caller shows ID, check it. If you're not expecting anyone, suggest they make an appointment by letter so you can confirm it is genuine. If you are at all suspicious, refuse entry and call the Police - lots of people have been robbed by bogus "water board" officials and the like. Dodgy ID cards can be knocked up in seconds on a computer, even those with photo's on.
Ha.ha, ha, must get my specs changed - I read the heading as another SCAN from Asda! I know supermarkets are diversifying these days with opticians, pharmacies, etc, but this would be taking things a bit too far! Libby
