How to check if your boiler works.

Hi Everyone

Check out the website below .

Had to laugh at the first step - Make sure it's turned on.

Mind you I have seen that happen but more to do with computers - people not turning the screen on and complaining the computer doesn't work!

Keep warm.

Mark

We thought we had it covered, we took out a plan with a well known gas company last year which has a yearly service within it.

This year we paid to renew it in September booked the free service for the 16th November, we had 2 confirmation calls and an email during last week then on Thursday we had a call to say the could not come due to the number of breakdown calls in the area, they gave us our new appointment for the 4th January.

I phoned customer services and explained we were to pensioners who were virtually housebound and if our heating happened to fail we would be in trouble, she said if that happened they would be out in 24hours (I don't know what I would be like after 24 hours in the cold).

I said surely if we paid on time we should have the service at that time to which she replied the service could be done anytime within the 12 months. So we could be looking at getting the service about August 2013

A call to the local Citizens Advice mentioning breach of contract is the next thing to do for me that is terrible service they need naming and shaming for taking risks with pensioners health.

Hi folks,

I have always been into tinkering with mechanical bits and pieces,as you can prob. guess from my choice of avatar, but would never dream of tinkering with the boiler , even when I was fit or able bodied.

Start messing about with stuff like that, for one thing usually involves using a step ladder, arms above head and an accident waiting to happen for anybody with respiratory problems.

The A & E have enough to cope with already and any boiler insurance cover will be voided (small print) to boot.

Leave it to the professionals who sometimes know what they are doing is my advice

Hope you dont mind my view Mark, I know you are trying to be helpful
