OK we all have the day to day boring things to do like washing, shopping, cleaning etc but there is more to life. So tell us your hobbies, favourite TV programmes, any other ways you keep yourself occupied - time to tell us your deep dark secrets!

Now the nights are drawing in and the days are colder - what do you all do to pass the time?

I often catch up on things I have recorded on the PVR all summer. This year it might be Homeland.
I also read a lot and spend time on the PC. We also play board games and we are looking to join a singing group as I have been told it will help exercise my lungs and I am Welsh, so its almost a requirement!

Do my emails, my kindle, chat, good tv and look forward to bed! I dont go out in the evenings. I have a busy day pottering around. Excitement on Friday - a wedding at Clandon Park. Something out of the ordinary. I will need to wear smart cloths and take my rollator. Depression needs to kept away at this time of the day.
You have got to watch Homeland! I've just started watching series 2 and after last nights episode I didn't think it could get any better.
I forget - a glass of wine or two on high days
i love to go to bed and watch tv,ive got sky in my lounge and bedroom and freeview in the kitchen,my dog ( is name is ice) comes upstairs with me and settles down beside me, i give him a treat and my treat is a large glass of wine or a vodka and fresh orange,Some times i have 2 large glasses of vodka and coke and then i go all dizzy....do you think im allergic to the coke?
I'm a telly addict! nothing I like better than curling up on my bed watching a good whodunnit or detective-type thing...its definitly a good unwinder for me!
For most of the house it's telly time, there's always something on to amuse my wife and step-daughter. We have cable, so the catch-up options allow them to watch things that are not showing that evening, even though we have loads of channels to choose from anyway.
For me, I keep going through my music collection, trying to skim out the duplicates from the many directories full I've built up over the years. I've boxes full of CD's, a lot of which I've digitised already, but many more to go. I also need to sort all those boxes out and finish off cataloguing them as I'm often looking for a particular track and cannot find the disc it's on, or just don't know which disc it's on.
Of course, I pop in and out of here too. Often on until the early hours. I play games on some free sites, I stopped playing for money because I don't have any. There is one which has 'slot machines', and you can get so many 'coins' every few hours just by clicking on something. I save the coins up until my last freebie of the night, then have a while playing - free. I had over 2 million 'coins' once, kept me spinning for ages!
I've had the computer problems too, and I'm always fiddling about with something. When we got our new TV in the summer, I connected it to the Internet as it has the BBC iPlayer built in and the TV updates itself over the Internet too. I've set up a VOIP telephone or two on the PC and laptop, I could call and talk to myself free of charge for hours now
I often have the radio on the headphones too, there are loads of Internet stations now, so I can always find something I like there. I am more into the quirky oldies, stuff that does not get played on mainstream radio.
I have been very bored today and thinking must get a hobby, didn't feel like ironing or boring housework, husband out all day (had to do my own lunch - just not good enough) thinking about knitting, never knit before could knit Dennis a pair of socks as a little 'thankyou' for all he does for me. Fancy teaching myself to play the piano but I would need a piano. Love reading, not really a telly person. Before I was poorly I did my family tree and other peoples, wish I had left it till now. If anyone is bored try that - join Ancestry.com you'll get hooked.
Oh and I forgot a glass or two like Annie80 but not just on high days - every day
Apart from the usual tv and reading I love listening to music. I have down loaded Spotify and its all free, it allows you to listen to anything from any year by anyone ( not the future though) Like Annie80 and libbygood I like a glass or two of red every night. If I am feeling well I do a bit of batch cooking to stock up the freezer for the times when I am ill. I also subscribe to love film so have always got something to watch. Living on my own means I don't have to argue over the remote too. Life is good even though I am laid up with a chest infection at the mo. xx
I'm not really a television fan these days, but I do like Merlin which has just started again.
I've been surfing the web all afternoon trying to find some inspiration for a hobby that is productive but doesn't cost the earth. I think I may have found it in decoupage. It seems to be relatively cheap, not too time consuming and you have something to show at the end of it ... hopefully, if you do it right.??
Mark, I have to say I totally disagree with you that 'shopping' is a day to day boring thing lol. I love to shop, just wish I had the money to shop properly. I have 2 young 'uns so I don't have much spare time for hobbies but I go line dancing when I can. Been doing it for 20 years now and the social aspect is fab.
I don't watch too much tv, but like CarrieMe, I lurrrve Merlin. Love reading, anything by Mary Higgins Clark is a must.
I have traced family trees for 25 years for friends, but I am just having a website built. I thought I might as well try and make some money at it, might even be able to give up work. I also love the telly, Drama, documentries anything that actually makes me think.

I like emmerdale and corrie, but can't just sit and watch them or I fall asleep, so I sit with my laptop open and watch as i play, scrabble, words with friends, trickwords, algerian solitaire, scorpian solitaire, or one of the bingo games on facebook which I am rubbish at, it all keeps my brain active. I also love anything historical, be it films, plays or books, so i like the yesterday channel,
I took up quilting a couple of years ago. At this time of year hand quilting can be done at any time and I do smaller projects. Sewing a quilt covering one's lap can be cosy! I still do some machine sewing as well, the piecing is okay but I find the machine quilting heavy.
Also, we stopped going to bridge clubs earlier this year and winter is not the time to take it up again. But we recently discovered online bridge. Great fun, and free.
I like the slower, period series on tv: Downton Abbey, The Paradise. And we rewatch jseries on DVD: West Wing, Sherlock Holmes, Forsyte Saga.
But no more deck chair in the garden. So windy today.
my deep dark secrets gotta be curling up on the sofa with blanket coffee and two sleeping cats watching tv - merlin homeland - or complete vampire or zombie rubbish! Just watched the first season of game of thornes which I really liked, Skype me daughter in the USA' play guitar'music' write' paint read' get lonely and fed up sometimes but not bored.
Hi, I applaud all the hobbies & Pastimes etc, very good to help keep your mind active, but I notice nobody mentions excercise which should be well up on the list of things to do this time of the year. Things like walking, leg and arm motions as practised at our local breathe easy group etc. It is important to keep both mind & body as active as possible. Regards
Hi I eat too much (comfort food) and am telly addict. During the day I dog walk my sisters dog and visit my mum in her care home. I go out about 3 nights a week playing darts and euchre (card game) and dominoes. Would love to have regular quiz to go to! Used to. Oh and go online of course! x
And I read a lot too. Just read the latest Stephen King novel and am reading nicci french right now.
Hi
Do my exercises in the morning, Short mat bowling as it is indoors and warm and not too strenuous; painting, paper crafts, sewing - all sorts, at the moment trouble with eyesight so am a bit curtailed; reading - belong to a book club (Idea - perhaps we should have a book club on-line or at least suggestions of what we are all reading. I have just finished Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel - brilliant.. Watch tv in evenings agree about Homeland, but don't like soaps. In fact I'm busy being busy to keep the old depression at bay.

New to the forum-so hello everyone, always busy, exercise is a must otherwise I will be useless by the time spring appears. I agree with many of you, some tv, fetching in the wood for the fire, walking the dog, and yes Ancestry is such a great winter activity. Have to watch the cold weather tho! Always I try to be positive and enjoy every day. Keep warm everyone.
