It comes to us all in time.

Midge has lost her hearing

I'm very sad to say

I knew that it would happen

To both of us one day

With me I have my hearing aids

Which help me such a lot

But poor old Midge I'm afraid

Is stuck with what she's got.

One whistle was all it needed

Her head would jerk at once

To get my full attention

That's how it always was

She is a very obedient dog

No matter far or near

She never would like other dogs

Pretend she didn't hear

So it's just another hurdle

That together we have to face

No doubt we will find other ways

Which will her hearing replace.

Awww Bless dear Midge.

Good day to you Don.

Hope you have some tasty dinners planned for you both this week :)

in reply to

I’ve been concentrating on cottage pies mainly, my favourite dish, and though I say it myself I have had some of the best I’ve tasted. 😀

Great and I bet Midge thinks you're a great cook too :) :P

Not had any complaints up to now. 😀

Aww Midge looks lovely. I thought he looked very good for his age, like a puppy, then I noticed the date. He's doing well for 13 yrs. your faithful companion by your side. You'll have to lend him one of your hearing aids 😄.

I now have a new friend, Jasper. He arrived from the rescue kennels 2 weeks ago, he will be 6 yrs old in September. He is such a good boy and always at my side.

You two take care. Love Jackie and Jasper xx 😘🤗

Midge is a female and is pretty good for her age. Her birthday is September too. Jasper looks a lively lad, has he been poorly? I see the shaved patch on his frontage.

Oh that photo...... A lovely poem Don, it says it as it is Im sad to say. My last Jack Russell had dementia in his latter days. It was heartbreaking, I'm glad you have Midge to keep you company, I really miss having a doggie friend.

One of my previous JRTs had a heart problem towards the end and would suddenly stop what he was doing and slowly sink to the ground. After a minute or two he got up and continued what he was doing as though nothing had happen. One time he just didn’t get back up, I thought is a lovely way to go. All too often that terrible last journey to the vet is required. 🙁

I was fortunate my daughter's two friends took him on that final journey. We buried him in the local wood znd planted some daffodil bulbs at the same time. They are a joy to see in the Spring and bring back lovely memories of him.

Aww love your poem and Midge, aww she's adorable ❤ Reminds me of one of my dogs, (Adrianne) 🤩 looks so similar when Adi was a pup ❤ she is so loyal, a little (well a lot) nervous. If I bring a new piece of furniture into the house she's like "HAY WHAT THE HECK" backing off and barking at it, bless her. My other Jack is now 13 (Rocky) and he has been diagnosed with a heart murmur, although he's slowed down a bit he still acts like a puppy whenever he's around water, whether it be a river, the sea or a hosepipe. Always had dogs, they bring me so much joy, heartbreaking when we lose them but they give so much. Trying to upload a pic of adi for you to see if you think they look similar 😁 xxx

Poor Midge, or is it poor Don? Perhaps she's just slinging a deaf un Don. I do that when I'm annoyed with him indoors.

There is one test that never fails, even with your man I bet. It involves the availability of food. 😂🍽

True. 🤔🙄

Midge has a dear companion whose always very near

Which somewhat compensates for the fact she can not hear

I am sure she will be able to communicate using paws and eyes

And of course that little nose will always smell out tasty pies

If she needs for anything else she only needs to bark

Infact she probably does that already if only for a lark. :)

I nearly missed this Skis, I’m going to miss my old desktop if I don’t get it sorted soon. Yes I don’t think it’s going to make much difference to her. Great poem. 😀

Good afternoon Mr.D and Midge. Your photograph of the lovely Midge and the not so appealing shoes, I see is dated 2007. So maths not being my strong point.....makes lovely Midge 13 years old (plus any year or two before that?). Having seen more recent photographs of her, she is like our Hazel and holds her ever growing years, very, very well. I loved todays rhyme as it just underlined the bond/love we have for our house sharers. I did giggle when i saw your shoes though!!!😊!! Stay indoors and stay well x 🐿💕

in reply toSquirrelsHolt

I think those were my wife’s gardening shoes. 😂x
