I've tried a salt pipe. It seems to help a bit. I visit the south coast once every few weeks and my sats go up and also my exhale on the peak flow meter goes from 200 to 250. I live on the east coast which is a cooler more damp sea air. My doctor agrees that the south coast sea air is better so there may be some logic in using a salt pipe.

Check out this thread though which is where I copied my answer from a previous post of mine.

Also put " salt " into the search box. There are quite a few threads on it.

I hope that helps. :)

I have heard about salt therapy and pipes but Pete does not want to know. I think some of the theories on this sprang from men who worked in the salt mines and did not have any breathing problems at all. It does seem to make sense to me but everyone is different so some may get on well with salt therapy whilst others may not. It could be worth a try though. Stay well. sassy59

Hi David, I just checked out the thread mentioned by puffthemagicdragon above. Just above his post you've probably seen the salt caves reference: saltcave.co.uk/

A regular user came to give a talk about this to our breathe easy group - she takes her mother who has copd regularly who seems to benefit. Ive not tried it but this reminds me to - they seem to be in the south of england - we live in whitstable kent so tunbridge wells is not so far away :) If i do go, and it helps, i'll post again to let people know. jean

I use a salt pipe and it seems to loosen stuff if you know what I mean :)

Goes well on chips only grief about blood pressure and how much her in doors bends me ear

I bought a Himalayan Salt Lamp from Amazon because I read that they were good to help with breathing then i lifted it up and fractured and displaced a knuckle on my right hand so they should come with a health warning :(

I put too much Himalayan table salt in my nebuliazer and i was tasting salt for days. Yet it brought up so much gunk out of my lungs and i can breath so much better. Will keep it up only use less salt next time lol.

Oh and I will never go back to using any kind of medicine in my nebulizer again. Good by to back pain and all other side affects. Sea saly and saline will be the only thing i use in my nebulizer for now.

Using saline nebules is recommended for correct dose and also not tasting bad

Maureen , do you put extra salt in the nebuliser along with the saline ampule? If so did the GP tell you to do this? Is it safe?

yes I put sea salt and saline togather a few days ago. Did an excellent job with no side effects except next time less sea salt , i did not like the abuterol that was given by doctor, did this on my own. Abuterol gives me back ache and no longer needed, the sea salt saline togather does a better job. I used Himalayan table sea salt.

well done maureenjjj, I am going to do the same. the ventolin they gave me for neb causes shakes and anxiety. will use 0.9 saline and few grains of your Himalayan sea salt, got some in my kitchen.

Hi 1968

This is something I've been wanting to try too and this subject has appeared here a number of times, some people benefit from them some say they don't. I've mentioned this before but an ex Manager of mine retired because of COPD and tells me he spends a lot of time at the coast now and it's done his breathing a world of good so perhaps there is something in it, for some people if not for others. I'll get around to trying a salt pipe myself one day. Best of luck.
