Salt Pipe: Has anyone tried a salt pipe... - Lung Conditions C...
Salt Pipe
Hi, i tried one. It didn't seem to make a lot of difference. Maybe I didn't persevere for long enough.
If you type saltpipe into the search box you will find many discussions.
Hi sportsbank
I used one for a while...l have COPD and Asthma.
It didn't seem to make any difference, apart from the fact it made me cough...an irritating cough, not the chest clearing type.
Many people however do find them beneficial.
They are fairly inexpensive, so perhaps worth trying.
Good luck if you purchase one, l hope it works for you.
Velvet xx
Many thanks everyone
Hello Sportsbank. I tried one buy didn't notice any benefit from it. I sterilised it and gave it to a charity shop. Doesn't mean it won't work for you though.
Yes I have. Like all complementary medicines/supplements the effects are usually anecdotal and marginal. It made no noticeable/measurable difference, but give it a go if you think it may help. in the 1950/60 children with lung and breathing problems were taken down the salt mines in Siberia. Again in the UK, workers in the Cheshire salt mines (Northwich) report healthy conditions.
Seaside salt air on a breezy day certainly helps my symptoms.

Hi I live by the seaside and have noticed that a walk by the beach or within smelling distance of the sea helps me to breathe better. I am not sure whether it is the walk itself or the salt in the air - probably both. x
Bought one for my dad who has COPD. He used it a few times but now it just sits on a shelf gathering dust I'm afraid (like so many other gadgets/supplements etc I've tried with him)
The theory behind them sounds fairly convincing so I think it's worth trying and maybe with perseverance you'll get some benefit. I think dad gave up too soon because it wasn't a miracle cure.
Not expensive and no harmful side effects so why not?
Good luck,
Claire
" Hello to you sportbank.. Just a small comment on salt pipes.. I have been using one now for over a year and have felt the difference it as made to my breathing...My Last spirometer result last July...... had improved from Fev1..27% too Fev1..38%.....that was a massive improvement to my lung capacity. Not saying it was all down to the salt pipe.. as I take a lot of high protein drinks too. plus a lot of exercise's.... The only down side to using it is....Is the salty tastes it leaves behind.. but in time I have got used to it.... I also have a lot of salt lamps around my home all various sizes....Good luck to you if you do try it.....Megan."
Did use one for a while, didn't seem to make any difference to me but probably my fault for not persevering with it. I have asthma and COPD. Good luck to you, I know a lot of people find them excellent xx
I have used a salt pipe on and off for a while and do find that it does help to clear mucus. Salt does have benefits as shown by the use of saline nebs.
I've had a salt pipe for about a year and I see no improvement in my breathing.
New to this site my husband has been diagnosed with COPD, Been reading about the pipe that will be next step for him,I bought him 15 session to the salt caves, a spa in your area may have this. He has only had 2 sessions so dont notice to much relief yet, will keep you posted
Have heard for pipe either rock salt or himilayan salt is to be used
My consultant advised me against salt pipes saying they can cause damage to lung tissue. Salt lamps can also have a negative effect on we suffers. I have COPD Emphysema but then its been shown that salt/saline nebulisers reduce my capacity yo breath while these help others. Be careful.
Yes they do work,if you can put in the time per day,3 or 4, 15 minute sessions a day!
