I went to one last week, as it happens! The Breathyeasy group organised the trip to Salt Space in Hove so that we could have a free introductory session.

We sat in a room which looked like a white beach, but the 'sand' was salt. The walls were coated with salt and a fine salt air was pumped in. The lights were low. The chairs were comfy so I put my feet up and relaxed to the gentle sound of the sea.

I really enjoyed the experience and I found that my chest was more open that evening than it had been for some time. It could have been coincidence but I'm inclined to think the salt had helped.

Not everyone felt as positive about the experience as I did. I guess it depends if you are a 'relaxer' or not. I relaxed to the point that I actually woke myself up with a snore, but not everyone could drop off like I did - maybe because I woke them up too!

If the Saltcave was nearer to home and I had independent transport, I would ask the family for vouchers for Christmas and Birthdays and treat myself to a few sessions as really you need to have several sessions a few days apart to feel real benefit and, like any other 'alternative' therapy, it comes at a price.

To sum up, I'd say if you can afford to try it and you are happy to spend an hour in peaceful meditation, there is nothing to lose by giving it a go, and you might be pleasantly surprised at how much better you feel afterwards.

Cisca Salt Pipe is the easiest carry it around with you. Have not had bronchitis or a cold since I got salt pipe in March 2014. Cant recommend them highly enough.

I have salt pipe haven't used it much i must get it out again - you have to sit with it inhaling for a good twenty minutes at a time

No 5 minutes at a time is good. Several 5 minutes gets good results. I have never done 20 minutes at a time. Remember never breath into the pipe as one person was doing!!! I have just done a 3 minute "smoke" whilst on the computer!

My experience of salt caves is positive - they definitely help breathing : but over time can run expensive. Although not as effective, salt pipes do the job - and are cheaper, long lasting and portable.

I use a salt saline solution in my nebulizer.

But when I have been near the an ocean or body of salt water for any length of time, my breathing improves. We were in a salt cave during one of our trips and my breathing improved.

I have not heard of salt pipes, but am going to check into it.

I have COPD & Emphysema. I am 69 and was a smoker until 12 years ago. I have tried various salt therapies and in all cases I have been made worse by the salt content. That includes a nebuliser in Hospital with saline solution. Beware that we are all different and make sure salt is beneficial for you and not the opposite as in my case. Best of luck.

Ive spent hours in one of the caves, I think they may help someone who does not have a severe case but it did not help me. I found I was worse and more blocked up when I came out, probably the cleansing effect of the salt. Nebulizing saline may be a good alternative and cheaper. good luck, take care J.
