Hi Ranworth, I discovered just a few days ago that my sputum sample grew Aspergillus. My consultant is away right now but I am going to the Bronch clinic on Thursday and will meet someone who can discuss it with me. So far, over the phone, I've been told to take Cipro and Doxy for 10 days, to clear up as much of any lingering infections as possible.

How was your diagnosis made, by blood or sputum sample ? Have you been given any treatment for it yet ? I am expecting to be put on anti-fungals and praying right now, that that won't involve going to the hospital for IVs, yet again.

The link given here is excellent. I'm going to start with the garlic capsules and coconut oil, right away.

Let us know how you get on.

BTW, my Bronchiectasis diagnosis was 42 years ago as well :)

Thankyou so much, Stilltruckin. your information is very helpful. It will be very hard not to eat Bread or Potatoes.

Hi Argana.I was Diagnosed with Aspergillus Last August by Blood sample. I'm taking Voriconazole 200 once a day at the moment i started them on 24th May. I was taking Voriconazole 200 Twice a day but could not tolerate the side Effects. So far have not been to bad taking Voriconazole 200 once a day. I have one after the chest infections. I see my Chest Consultant quite regular. Good luck for Thursday. would love to know how you get on.

Hi Ranworth, in case you don't know, I had to delete my membership as Argana and started again as Billie_Jean 2. I deleted my account because of privacy issues. As regards the Aspergillus, after the CT scan, I was told that it was not in my lungs and that the sputum test result was of no significance. At the time I was really relieved to hear that but looking back now, it seems to me that from that time on, I started getting all sorts of weird bugs. Finally ended up with Pseudamonas in September and Achromabacter in November and had a long hospital stay. At the moment I don't know which or any of these bugs are still active but judging by the amount of sputum, I'm pretty sure there's something nasty still going on there.

How about you ? How's your anti-fungal treatment going ?

I'm so pleased you're still here!! was wondering just the Other day what had become of you 😃😃😃

When three of my sputum samples came back having grown aspergillus, I was referred for the 1st time. The skin prick allergy test showed an instant reaction to aspergillus but it had gone down a lot before the consultant checked my arm. He (he was a horrible swine btw) told me I didn't have it according to the blood test. On later questioning my GP he said he'd researched it a bit (because he didn't know much about it) and discovered that most people carried it.

I was only reassured when I saw my CT scan. Asper shows up on scans as black pockets, apparently, and there were none. P

Hi Peege, I thought everybody knew that this was my second HU persona :) I'm a little paranoid a out Internet privacy and felt I'd been way too transparent in my Argana posts. Now I'm more discreet and take care not to mention specific locations, hospitals etc. I deleted all the stuff I posted before Christmas about my hospital stay, for the same reasons.

As regards the scans, they look for 'cavitation' , the pockets you describe, where Aspergillomas lurk. It's amazing how casual the medical profession is about Aspergillus, considering how serious it can be. Glad you didn't have it and hope you've gotten over your recent exacerbation.

Hi Billie Jean 2

I take 1 voriconozol a day as I had very bad side effects when taking 2.. last year I was rushed in Hospital conery care my heart rate was up to 220, very frightening. I was taking itraconozol twice a day. I'm fine just taking 1 Voriconozol a day. But keep getting infections & Breathless. I'd say every 4/6 wks. Waiting for test results for Persudermona & CT Scan. I see another specialist from Northern General Hospital 2nd Feb. Hopefully he can help me. Could you tell me symptoms of persudermona? I get funny taste in mouth & hot sweats, alway tired. Sorry this is so long, worried

The only way you know you have Pseudomonas is if it shows up in your sputum. Some doctors maintain that it can be present even when it doesn't show on sputum tests and that if you have it once it never really goes away. I had it in 2002 and not a sign after that until September 2015. If you're having lots of infections and coughing up a lot of nasty coloured gunk, then Pseudo could certainly be a possibility. Funny you should mention taste because I think the gunk has a certain, sort of yeasty taste when Pseudo is there.

That incident with your heart rate going so high must have been terrifying for you and I'm glad you're now stable again on the dose of anti-fungals. I've had Candida show up a few times recently and got 6 days IV Caspofungin for it while I was in hospital.

Hope the test results are helpful and that the new specialist can cast some new light on the situation. Let me know how you get on, please.
