Bronchiectasis

This is my first post and I am a little worried. I saw a consultant recently who told me I have bronchiectasis.I have had asthma all my life and also aspergilosis. My asthma is very controlled and not giving me too much trouble with my current inhalers.

The consultant has now prescribed Relvar Elipta 184/22 and reading the side effects I an really scared to take it.

Can anyone give advice please.

Thank you.

All medications have possible side effects. You need to remember that serious ones are very rare. Most people take paracetamol without thought but if you read the leaflet in the box there are many possible side effects also. Best advice would be to speak with your pharmacist about your concerns.

I've been taking Relvar (for asthma) for a very long time- at least 20 years probably. It suits me and it was not changed when I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Just remember to gargle or rinse your mouth thoroughly as and when you try it, or you may find it affects your voice. Best wishes.

Hello,

I have COPD and asthma ( 22 years ) with a new recent diagnosis of bronchiectasis too.

Been using the high dose Relvar 184/22 for 9 years and it has been helpful ( compared to the lower dose one or Trelegy )

You could take and see how you get on with it ? Do remember to ‘rinse gargle and spit’ after taking it though.

Let us know how you get on won’t you?

Go well

Pauline

Thank you. It is so nice to hear from someone who is taking this. I will give a try and see how I get on.

Is the Relvar Elipta for your asthma or the bronchiectasis? One of the more usual treatments for bronchiectasis is Azitromycin 3x per week. My wife has been taking this for last 5 years with generally good results, and no obvious side effects. Have a good day, Chris.

I think it is for asthma. Hopefully I will get on with it OK.

And for the bronchiectasis?

It was not fully explained. I assume it was for the asthma but my asthma is not severe. I have been taking Clenil modulite 100 for years which seemed to work for me. I was not given any other medication apart from Relvar.

Hmm. Was the bronciectasis diagnosed after a scan of your lungs? This is the only way, as far as I know to correctly detect bronch. Your consultant needs to be more clear about what and why he is prescribing.

Yes. I had a scan which confirmed bronchiectasis. I have had asthma all my life but it has been well controlled. The consultant just said I am changing your medication but when I got home and read the leaflet it clearly says for severe asthma and copd. I was told I definitely do not have copd which is very confusing. I am not seeing the consultant for another six months and I am not sure my GP will have any answers.
