Bronchiectasis and asthma

Hi everyone, I hope you enjoyed your Christmas though I know for many it is not a happy time. I had an appointment with my consultant just before Christmas and he confirmed that my FeNO score of 52 meant I had asthma as well. This must have been as a result of the virus which caused the chest infection and subsequent bronchiectasis. I didn't know asthma could be caused by a virus. I just wondered if any of my new friends on here also suffered from both and had any advice for me. I'd just got my head around bronchiectasis!

I have COPD, bronchiectasis and asthma. The asthma developed after infection with pseudomonas which I still have. It’s eosinophilic asthma and is controlled with inhaled steroids and spiriva. The medication made a huge difference to my breathing but I had some difficult times before the asthma was diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

Thank you, I had a pseudomonas infection so that could have been the start.

Hello i have both like you and yes at times can be tiring and uncomfortable. But management is the key. Getting the right meds and treating infections quickly and correctly will help with these conditions.

Most importantly is a good Dr and staying positive.

😊x

Before my asthma was diagnosed they thought I had chest infections. It was because the asthma wasnt being treated. After a few years it morphed into bronchiectasis. Both are well controlled by my regime :

Exercise, hydration, spiriva, clenil modulite, serevent, vit D, fish oil, Zinc tabs, Vit C. Good luck.

Thanks Ginty, I hadn't thought about zinc tablets will look into that.

Zinc boosts immunity. Vit D does that too and also has an anti-inflammatory quality.

Hi my B'sis was caused by Haemophilis infection diagnosed after Xrays CTscan etc. Bugs & viruses have a lot to answer for. Don't have asthma or COPD. Hope you get all the correct treatment & a good Consultant is key. All the best to you
