I find my AeroBika very good at. bringing up phlegm. They're cheaper than AirPhysios and furthermore they are obtainable on the NHS.
Thank you Alberta, I am on it and have just requested one from the GP. Thank you Ax
Air physio is really designed to promote strengthening the lungs and breathing for athletes. It was then taken up for other purposes. It's safety is questionable when used with damaged lungs. Also it is expensive. The areobiker is probably the best device for loossening mucus and can be obtained free from your GP or the physio. I have used all sorts of devices and found the aerobika to be the best.
Hi Swizzy, just got a call from the prescribing team at GPs, said it is contra-indicated. However, just found an article from Royal Free and have sent it to them. Thanks
It depends on what condition you have. After I had a series of pneumothoraxes in 2023 my consultant didn't want me to use the aerobika for a while because of the pressure in the lungs. As thousands with bronch and copd use the aerobika I think it is a good idea to ask your GP why they are saying it is contraindicated for you
Put Airphysio in the search bar, many previous posts with informative replies
I use the AirPhysio when I have mucus in my chest or coughing a lot from a cold. It always brings up the mucus. I haven’t heard of the other device others mentioned but I’m in the US so it may not be here. I’ve recommended this device to my friends and family. Best of luck to you.
I blow a balloon up gently a few times. Not too far but enough to make me cough a little and it helps to move my phlegm and my breathing is less restricted. Cheap and cheerful
Hi there, we do get a few enquiries about devices like the AirPhysio, and some people may find them useful; however, we're not aware of any independent research into them .
If you'd like to chat with us about mucous clearance, you can speak with our respiratory physiotherapist on 0300 222 5800, 9am-5pm, Monday – Friday. If she's not available when you call, we'll arrange for her to call you back.
