Hoping this might help someone with lung problems

Hello everyone I hope you're all doing well 😉

I was diagnosed with my lung disease two years ago, but prior to that I was diagnosed with really low testosterone, which took approximately 5 years to diagnose .

I recently had my six month testosterone blood test and my results are really bad, once again below the minimum.

On doing some research recently using medical studies, I found something very interesting. A lack of vitamin d can affect your testosterone and a lack of testosterone can cause/irritate lung problems. As we all know lung problems cause other issues.

I verified with my lung specialist and she confirmed that hormonal changes can affect your breathing (I've been having a flare up).

I'd forgotten to start taking vitamin d supplements but have just started again. Obviously I'm not a doctor and this is information I found out myself due to frustration with my situation.

Most of us suffer more in the winter, no sun, so lack of vitamin d.

So if you are suffering and have not been tested, get checked for vitamin d levels and hormonal levels.

I hope this helps at least one person out there 😊

Good to know. I usually get the same although female. I don't eat vegetables so my folic takes a nosedive and b12. It's amazing how lack of even 1 vitamin can make you feel. It's good to know 😉

Not being cheeky but may I ask why you don't eat vegetables and what do you eat if they are not part of your diet ? I am genuinely curious

I have a diet of curry, pasta and Chinese. The only veg I have is hidden in those. Love potato done any way. I have never liked vegetables since I was a kid and my mother made me eat a sprout. Put it this way I saw that sprout twice 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤣🤣🤣🤣

I am astonished. My diet is all plant based so I eat vegetables in quantity every day. How different we all are

I have been taking vitamin d3 for years, and started on this when I started taking calcium as it helps to absorb this into my bones . I think it's important for all of us lungies as we don't get out as much as we should and in the winter we are covered up when we do go out . I didn't know testosterone affected your lungs or that vitamin d affected testosterone, thanks for the update , it's worth keeping a note of this x

Thanks for sharing. I have osteoarthritis so am prescribed vitamin D. Interesting how a lack of vitamins can affect our hormones and they in turn our lungs. I am female but presume the menopause could have a similar affect. Also, not lungs, but a friend of mine with dreadful ME found that she was seriously deficient in B12, but only when she went to a complimentary practitioner. xx

Thanks Wibble28. I was advised to take 1000iu vitamin d by a chemical pathologist when I was diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolaemia and put on statins. He told me that was the optimum dose, and I have taken it every day since. My husband, who has COPD, was sent them during the COVID pandemic with government advice to take them and has carried on. You must be careful not to take too much as it can cause other problems, but it’s really good advice. Take care.
