Hello everyone I hope you're all doing well generally and with the cold weather.
I have CPFE and have been struggling recently.
I have been investigating various things and am aware that lung problems lead to problems with oxygen in the system which in turn effects your lower limbs especially.
One of the potential oxygen problems is partially/completely blocked arteries in the lower part of your body which causes pain when you walk and is only relieved by rest, I have a partial blockage. As I also suffer with arthritis in both hips this has become very difficult for me getting around.
The name of this problem is called Claudication .
Does anyone else suffer from this problem and are they aware of any treatment that may help.
Many thanks.

I have similar. I had severe spinal stenosis for many years. My surgeon said the part of my spine that was blocked controlled the muscles in my upper legs which became really weak. I also have vasculitis which affects the flow of blood in my veins. I had an op on my back last year and was sent to physio. This may help you. In my case he suggested engaging me gluts when walking which does help. I also take longer steps now. I also do Pilates which I’ve found helpful. You may not be able to strengthen your muscles but it’s important to use them or lose them.
You must try to exercise as much as you can, to keep the circulation going. I do very gentle exercises for an aching hip (cribbed from my daughter who has a similar problem). Your gluts and other leg muscles are the biggest in the body and do not get their fair share of oxygen, which is taken up by the internal organs. Seated exercises are good- you certainly don't have to run a marathon. Perhaps your doctor could refer you to a physiotherapist.
Thanks for your reply.I have been seeing a physio for a year now and things are worse unfortunately.
I do get out a few times a week so it helps, but I have to stop regularly due to the pain.
I have had another problem which meant I lost muscle mass and haven't been able to regain it, this in turn has had an effect on my legs in addition to the lung problems.
At the moment I feel frustrated with myself more than anything.
Oh dear, it sounds as if you are doing all the right things, so I'm not surprised you're frustrated. Please keep trying. I hope eventually the weather will improve so it will be easier for all of us to exercise.
