Sorry I can't help you from my experience. Have you ever been investigated for bronchiectasis? The people I know with the symptoms you describe have that diagnosis.

Sputum samples do not always pick up on some particularly sneaky bugs. Some bugs need longer than the normal time in the lab to grow big enough to be picked up. Pseudomas are quite clever at hiding themselves. I hope they can get to the root of your trouble- insist on further sputum tests.

Glad you're feeling a bit better .Hope this will continue. If it doesn't perhaps this helpful sounding respiratory nurse will help you get further tests.

Look at the other causes of constant coughing, infections have been ruled out so that leaves allergies and anxiety. I had the same situation constant cough but no infection of any type, it was suggested that it may be an allergy cough. I knew I had a hiatus hernia but didn’t realise it could cause excess stomach acid fumes from getting to my lungs which caused the cough. Gaviscon gave an instant relief, now I on Omeprazole and the cough is not there unless I do get an infection. I also get an anxiety cough in certain circumstances but once I realised the triggers it became manageable.

Hi have you considered trying a mucolyte or the huffing technique to ease the mucous and coughing

I have a routine which has been really good for me take preventer inhaler then the mucolyte (carbocysteine or acetylcysteine)15 mins after I use an acapella device to get the mucus up then use my steroid inhaler keeps lungs in good shape .I also drink 2litres of water a day

As someone who suffers from bronchiectasis, I can assure you that not all infections show in sputum results. Pseudonomas for one are very good at hiding and I was taught many years ago by a Respiratory Professor that blood and sputum tests are only indicators of an infection and not 100% reliable and therefore should not be used as a standalone diagnostic. The symptoms you describe sound like bronchiectasis but you would need a referral to a bronchiectasis specialist if indeed it is suspected in order to get any formal diagnosis wherein further tests would be carried out.

Bronchiectasis can exacerbate even without infection, causing excessive amounts of mucous and coughing.do u do dedicated sessions of lung clearance Redrum46? I find acbt with huffing+ postural drainage helpful and use aetobika.what inhalers are you on xx
