My wife has bronchiectasis, but in addition chronic sinusitis and also glaucoma. Her last spiro results were not good and her consultant suggested a course of cortisone to help v=clear the lungs. In the past shhe has tried many different products ranging from Seebri which cleared her lungs but dried everything else up as well, including eyes and nose. She has been taking Pulmicort for 3-4 days and once again, dry cough, dry eyes, i.e. usual outcome. She will perservere until the end of the week then call her consultant.
The main problem is the side effect on her glaucoma. She needs a cataract removal op, but is wary of local anaesthetics as they tend not to work very well. She had Pink disease as a baby which left her with damage to nerve endings, hence the problem with local anaesthetics.
Does anybody have any suggestions re inhalers please?
Thanks in advance, Chris.

She does very well then to do hills & 10k steps still. I find doing dedicated 2-3 sessions incorporating postural drainage + various techniques ea day help, and makes clearing what's there in between easier. I'm on carbocysteine, which thins mucous, which helps.ive various eye probs incl v dry eyes- systaine eye drops & Evolve 0.2% are both v good & make them more comfortable( px by eye specialist)
You don't have a local anaesthetic for a cataract removal. It's painless and over very quickly. Done in out patients in and pout in less than an hour. The procedure only takes about 20mins. Xx.Sheila
Hi Chris, I can sympathise with your wife's condition as I have exactly the same. I was using antihistamine to dry up the over production of mucus for a long while before I realised it was also drying my eyes. I have narrow angled glaucoma, I had laser holes put into my eyes but my right eye didn't work so need the drops everyday. I use Sterimar nasal wash everyday and a lubricating gel for my nose which helps and make sure that if my sinus's do get infected I get the antibiotic drops to clear up quickly. I take Methotrexate for my rheumatoid which I am sure doesn't help to keep me free from infections but I do try to keep well clear. I now use Fostair Nexthaler for overlap asthma which helps my bronchiectasis as it contains an anti inflammatory, it has left me with a little cough but i do feel much better on this. I also have a cataract but it doesn't need doing just yet. I do hope your wife can get relief for her problems in 2025 and wish you both well x
Thank you. I think we will go and have a chat with our GP. He`s always got time to investigate and propose solutions. Personally I think my wife could do worse than visit a homeopathic doctor that she has seen in the past, but not today. Still got some Champagne and foie gras to deal with. Cheers, Chris.
I also have glaucoma and it sounds like I had the same procedure as lzb1 with a laser to put holes in my eyes which worked great and I no longer need drops for my eyes. I use Inspiolto respimat inhaler, although in Europe I believe it is called Instiolto. I get a dry mouth especially when sleeping and assume it is caused by the inhaler but don’t have a problem with dry eyes from it.
