I have just had my nebulised Colomycin increased from 1 million to 2 million. Has anyone had any side effects from the 2 million dosage? Many thanks.
Colomycin: I have just had my nebulised... - Lung Conditions C...
Colomycin
The increased amount should just be more affective against the bacteria. There is an outside chance of broncho spasm if your lungs don't like it. You will know if this happens because you will become breathless. I can't nebulise any of the abs now because of broncho spasm.
Thank you Swizzy. The reason I asked is that I’m feeling a bit unwell at the moment and trying to distinguish between effects of higher dose Colomycin and an exacerbation. Keep well.
Remembering that I am not a doctor and speak from personal experience - I presume that you have been given the higher dose because you have an exacerbation that is not responding to the lower dose. You not feeling well is likely to be the exacerbation which will also be giving the usual symptoms of one - feeling poorly, darker mucus, more mucus.. Colomycin in a higher dose is not going to give you those symptoms but may make you wheezy if your lungs are not happy with the extra going in there, which is also very unlikely if you have been tolerating the lower dose.
I have also been given a rescue pack of Cipro which I may have to resort to if I don’t feel better soon. Thank you for replying. Typical feeling like this when there’s so much to do for the big day!
If it was me, with all the xmas work coming up, I would take the ciproNebulised antibiotic is really meant to keep the bacteria numbers down but is not quickly effective if they have been having a party and got out of hand.
The only time I’ve taken 2million is with a flare-up of pseudomonas, so only for 2 weeks at a time, but I didn’t notice any side effects. I do hope you feel better soon. Is 2million going to be a permanent dose for you? X
Hi - I have been (still am) on 2million Colomycin 2x daily for 2+ years - I have noticed no problems (I think..) during that period - it can only fight the infections - best wishes
I’ve been on 2 million for over six years. I had some chest tightness when I first started it so had salbutamol added in. I’ve not had any other side effects. I was told when I first started this it’s to keep the numbers down after antibiotic treatment. In my case two weeks of double iv antibiotics. I hope you feel better soon.
sounds like a good idea.
