I ended up in A&E on Friday. Apparently I have a chest infection and the bonus of influenza A. They put me in a room by myself Didn’t get a proper bed just one of those plinths they have in A&E.
Had lots of IV antibiotics and fluids I’m home now with an army of meds. Fingers crossed I’ll be feeling better by the end of the week.
Good thing is the medical doctor wasn’t happy about my bronchiectasis so I’ve been referred.
Take care everyone. This flu is nasty and I’ve had my jab. Xx

Sending you lots of love and hugs Anita and wishing you a speedy recovery. Sorry to hear you ended up in hospital but pleased you have been referred to a bronch specialist.
So sorry to hear that you're not well. And the A&E 'bed' must have added insult to injury. (My husband ended up on one some years ago.) I hope you're beginning to feel a little better, and that some good will come of the referral. xxxx
Fingers crossed. Thank you I did get transferred on Saturday lunch time to AEC which is part of EAU ward. Conditions much more comfy and a tv to watch. xx
Those hard, narrow trolleys are totally unsuitable for anyone who’s ill enough to spend hours in A&E. Not a great deal better than the floor really! It’s quite cruel imo. Anyway, thank goodness you’re out xxx
Very sorry to hear this Anita. It's not right that you didn't get a comfortable bed to lie down in. You must be exhausted. I hope you feel better very soon. Much love. Cas xx 🙋🐶
To dear Anita, I just popped by and saw your post 🥲 So sorry you’ve been so poorly and had to go to hospital!! I hope now you’re home you’ll be on the mend and feeling much better soon!
Really hope too that they’ll get you better treatment for your bronchiectasis!!!
Take care lovely so you feel better for Christmas!!!
What an awful way to have to get your referral to a bronch specialist.
Thanks for the warning about the flu bug going around. Yes, someone sat five feet away from me at a meeting last night, saying she'd had it, and this was the first day she'd eaten for 6 days and she was just starting to feel normal. Right away, I was putting cold and flu block round my nostrils, and later doing the saline sinus rinse and the mouthwash gargle to stop any bugs that might have got through.
Thank you Ergendi. Hope you keep well. I’ve been using Sterimar for around a month and the bugs got through I’m thinking 🤔 maybe picked up the first bugs when I went to ENT Xx
hi l have had my flu/rsv injections but this is the 2nd bout of heavy cold and hacking coughin has many months what is going on ? am now taking my emergency pack which incidently have only been perscribed only this weekend so l hope you are sorted asap take care and a speedy recovery x x
Sorry to hear you're unwell. Reg and I have been fighting a viral infection for two weeks - may have been flu, but we don't think so - not as unwell as you are.
We've just started venturing out and about a bit but the least exertion wears us out very quickly. So it's one day up and one day down.
It may take you a while to recover, especially with the chest infection on top. As I have Bronchiectasis, I started Doxycycline straight away. It started at the weekend, of course, so I took a dose on Sunday and Monday. I then spoke to a doctor on the Monday evening (when he finally rang). I told him that I'd started the Doxy and he said, 'Oh, it sounds like a viral infection so that won't help, but as you've started it, carry on for five days.' I told him that as I have Bronch, I would take them for two weeks and he just said, 'OK.' Frankly, if I hadn't had the Doxy, I think I would be in the same position as you now, as my chest has been struggling, even with the antibiotics.
Be kind to yourself and don't overdo it on the days that you feel better, but try and move about a bit when you're able as Bronch is better for it - I think it helps to move the mucous if you can have some gentle activity, even if you sit in a chair and wave your arms about a bit.
I'm glad something good came out of it for you and you are now referred to someone for your Bronch. Shame you had to become so poorly before it happened, but at least you're on the list now.
Thanks Moy. Sorry that you and Reg are poorly too I’ve found that a little walk around the house helps. I shall try waving my arms whilst sat on the sofa. I find the coughing and mucous wears me out Unfortunately I’ve been ill for over 4 weeks I took 2 weeks of doxycycline then a course of steroids and would feel not too bad at the end of each course only to be poorly again a day later. Nasty stuff going round. Take care. Keep warm xx
So sorry you have been so poorly watergazer. At least something positive has come out of it and hopefully the specialist will sort out your bronch properly. Get well very soon xx

Sounds like you have been through it watergazer and sorry to hear you had to sleep on a plinth, what happened to all those beds they bought for the covid pandemic? Dreadful when you are feeling so poorly. I am sure you feel much better being back at home, wishing you a speedy recovery . Keep us updated on what your bronch consultant has to say x
Oh no watergazer.....how awful for you. I certainly hope you recover soon. I hope the referral to Bronc consultant will help. Hopefully you will be much better for Xmas. Thinking of you xx❤️
So sorry you have and still going through it wayergazer. Rest is the key medicine now. Wishing you a speedy recovery.I started with a chest infection 3 weeks ago. Somehow my hp had prescribed 7 days of doxycycline short. I emailed in to find the GP called in to check on Mr. Surprised I really was and grateful I said I have felt worse on previous occasions. Next day she rang again just coming to check me at home. Well a week before my ankles had swollen so I rest elevating my feet. GP came after examination me she sat down on thr floor said I am going to calla an ambulance on the special line they have. I was now really shocked. I had pneumonia and infection upto sepsis stage. I was kept in on iv drips and antibiotics drips for 5 days. Do not do what I did think it will be fine. If not well call the GP. Iam home but had 2 more weeks of antibiotics and still fluctuating up and down. Stay safe please
Gosh what a journey you’ve been on. Pneumonia can take months to clear. I always worry that I’ll get pneumonia when I’m like this so I’m a bit neurotic and will pester the doctor or go to A&E. Tiny steps are our road to recovery. I’m working my way through Disney films at the moment. Xx
