I was at the right age to have this vaccine but my husband was too old.We have both had this Virus,

Mine lasted. for 6 days but am still coughing.

My husband is 12 day and still not at all well.

Why couldn’t the over 80s have it?I really do not understand,It dosent make sense.

It doesn’t make sense to me either. We’re not old enough to have the RSV jab yet my husband has serious health issues. I just want to wish you and your husband a good recovery xxxx

Wishing you both a speedy recovery. No, it doesn't make any sense at all, my husband is in the age group to have it, in fact he had it on Tuesday, he has no lung or heart problems. I'm not old enough, but have COPD, why can't I get it?

Unfortunately the people who make these rules have absolutely no knowlege of lung conditions and what affects us. The limits are set by small studies in the well population which show that those who were under 70 weren't affected too badly by the virus and those over 80 didn't benefit from it. Complete rubbish. I am too young for the vaccine at 74. My bronch consultant wrote to my GP who very happily gave it to me. Consultants can go against the rules if they want to.

I don’t think it was even tested on the over 80s. This enabled NHS England to say there is “no evidence” that over 80s benefit. Well, there wouldn’t be, would there, if they were excluded from trials?! I’m sure it’s down to cost. A totally disingenuous approach.

It's the same as the refusal to give those with non cf bronch drugs which are game changers for cf because ' there have been no trials yhat proof non cf bronchs would benefit' they tjink that we are stupid. Yes it is money and no amount of it being thrown at the NHS is going to solve the problem of the misappropriation and waste which is the fault of the managing bodies.

Oh don’t, that makes me so angry! I was hoping to get nebulised tobi to treat two colonised bacteria (my lungs didn’t tolerate nebbed mero or ceftaz). But, guess what, tobi is only available to cf-ers. For non-cf the trust has to make a special funding application, which takes months. Meanwhile, I’m left untreated, hoping I don’t need another hospital admission for IVs 🤷‍♀️

I did have tobi but my lungs reacted to it going into broncho spasm. I have problems with all nebbed antibiotics now. It's a pain.

I don't understand it, either. My conditions (both asthma and COPD) are generally well controlled unless I get ill. I am a fitness nut and have just got over a cold. I keep sufficient data to know that a mild, one week cold has put my aerobic fitness back by at least two months. My consultant has said the best thing I can do is not get ill.

But I am in my 50s so no hope of the RSV vaccine. Even privately it is not currently authorised in the UK for anyone under 60. It has been authorised for people over 50 in the USA so I hope that will happen here at some point. Although the vaccine is expensive so even if it is authorised it will make precious little difference if one cannot afford it!

apparently Boots are offering the RSV vaccine at £245 I believe.

I hate to think that this could possibly mean that the over 80ies are not worth saving.

i read it was something to do with the trials, as they hadnt tested the older age group. Very strange. I had never heard of RSV - how do you know you have had it? Is it different from a bad cold, flu or covid, how do you tell the difference?

Nonsensical! It will cost a lot more if elderly people end up in hospital! Moreover the rules for the shingles jab make no sense, whatsoever!
