Good evening everyone, i suffer with water retention in my feet and ankles which my GP and Chest specialist put it down to my prednisolone tablets that i have to take daily as well as a whole host of other medication. To help the swelling i also have to take daily Furosemide tablets 2 x 40mg a day. My GP also mentioned the other day Compression Sock? Does anyone else wear these? Are they any good? Where would I get then from.

Kind regards as always

Joe.

Hi, amazon sells them and you should be able to get them in boots and other chemist's 😉

Hi Joe, l wear compression hosiery which are prescribed by the nurse at the surgery. If you need them then ask for them on prescription. They are very good and work well. Try and get three pairs as they’ll need to be hand washed.

Hello Joseph. I've been wearing them for years for my varicose veins, but they came in very handy when a slight accident in the summer left me with a splendid haematoma on my right shin and both legs started to swell after being forced to spend time elevated to help the haematoma. The right leg worse. They should be prescribed and your legs measured by a nurse to make sure you get the right size. They would be expensive to buy.

You need to be referred to the lymphodoema clinic to be measured correctly. Socks that don’t fit properly can cause damage.

Don`t mention compression socks. I fully understand why my sister used to swear at them. I had tem prescribed last year, wore them one and had blisters around my ankles. My immediate thougt was, could they lead to ulcers, so have not worn them since. If at all posible I don`t wear socks and find my feet are often warmer without. If I do wear socks then I have a couple of pairs of ski socks which seem to be fine and do offer support. Good luck, Chris.

Hi, I'm wondering if they're the same as the compression socks people are advised to wear on long flights? If so they're bound to be available in man-size...... wondering if they're available from somewhere like Boots as well as amazon. Great idea to post here for advice from other users particularly men.

I had to wear compression tights for 6 weeks after treatment to thread veins with instructionsto put them on before getting up, I'd shower before bed so I could do just that on waking.

Not much fun in high summer but eminently better than succumbing to cellulitis (which is common with oedema) or ulcers. Good luck Joseph

Hi, I think I may be an oddity as my left foot and ankle swell for no apparent reason. My GP has done loads of tests and a scan but could find nothing wrong. Usually it is only slightly swollen and that's OK, but from time to time it swells more and is painful, so I wear compression socks, (flight socks) until the swelling goes down again. You can buy them on Amazon, and there are some amazing patterned ones too. Or as others have said you can get them on prescription.

Hi Joe, I often have swollen feet which I put down to water retention but my doc doesn’t seem to an agree with. He/she/it whatever thinks sitting too long. My situation is completely different to yours. I’m 93 with breathing problems. My exercise is waggling my feet around whilst sitting with my legs up, not much use to you I’m afraid but friendship is always useful and I’m in the North West too. Don 👍

I have trouble with the latest terminology. If we all laughed at it it would go away. ✍️

Hi Joseph, I wore my stockings for years and found them very helpful. Initially I got mine in prescription from my Drs. Last time I had to buy my own online.

I do recommend them if you are mobile enough to put them on. I'm not any longer🙄

Hope that helps hun x

Yes they are good. You can get them on prescription. I am allowed two pairs twice a year.

Hi joseph260268. I wear compression socks I bought mine from Amazon. I’ve seen them in chemists and other shops I only tend to wear mine at night as I’m diabetic and they help with blood flow. They are also sold on Instagram X

Hi Joseph, I have the same problem with feet and ankles swelling, I was told to loose weight, but easier said than done. I tried comressin socks, they do help, I hot mine off Amazon, lots of different ones on there, you have to measure around your ankles to get the size. I was given water tablets from my GP,apparently it's all part of our COPD.good luck and hope you feel better.

Hi Joe, I have swollen feet ankles and legs. I just wear thick tights but would be interested to know how you get on with compression socks. What puts me off is the ones I've seen are stockings and don't compress your feet whereas tights do. xxx
