aerobica

I have had Bronchiectasis for many years. My pulmonologist recommend using the Aerobica to bring up mucus. I have had absolutely no luck with using it. Does anyone use it successfully and can give me any helpful hints?

Hiya.i use the aerobika and find it useful.do u do lung clearance sessions using acbt/ huffing technique? I usually use it for few blows, then lie to do acbt, use aerobika again as part of that then sit up to cough up and repeat for other side x

Look onaluk website and you tube = active cycle of breathing technique / huffing technique.its about commuting to sessions once or twice a day,as needed,to get mucous up.the aerobika helps with it.if pos, could u ask to see a respiratory physio to guide you

I'm sorry you're having no luck so far. I was prescribed one when I was very ill and the result was instantaneous and quite miraculous. I was much too ill at the time to think about technique. I still find it useful for helping my lungs to have a good blow, even when there is no mucus to cough up. I hope you'll persist and that other people may have some ideas to help you.

I echo the huffing technique. Combined with the areobika it helps me enormously.

I had to google the huffing technique. My docs never suggested it to me, so I was unaware. Looks pretty easy, Thank you for suggestion.

My damage is at the bottom of both lungs. My pysio explained that gravity and lying down in a certain position would also help.this plus huffing and Acapella works much better for me.

One thing seems to suit one person; another appliance suits another. Perhaps Acapella would work better for you.

Hi, I have been using my Mr huff abd puff as I call it for years. My physio told me not yo sit up yo use it but lye down first on the right then in the middle and then the other side. All ways breath in through the nose so the air is warmer. It works much better, I in increase the amount of puffs if I can't shift it. Good luck, some times I get loads up others not. Depends on how much is down there. Or sometimes it will come up later. By coughing. Take care and stay safe.

Hi, I have Bronchiectasis plus Aspergillosis and other lung and non lung conditions. I use an Acapella Choice along with mucus thinners, Fostair Inhaler, a reliver inhaler and a Nebuliser all of which help me with my extreme breathlessness and mucus clearance but my breathing technique is useless! I just can't seem to breath in the way I've been told. I used to be able to breath correctly but as my condition has progressed I can't seem to do it anymore. Having said that all the above devices definitely help even with my rubbish technique! xxx

Hi GinnyMa,

I have had a lot of success getting mucous up using the Air Physio device. I also find the huff technique in the “tripod” position (bending over, hands on knees) very useful too for bringing up mucous. Good luck to you.
