Hi there, I have recently been commenced on oxygen. i have started with a runny nose and cold. Should I change my cannula after my cold has cleared or does this just apply to chest infections?

Hi I would change it to stop any infections but suppose you could clean it.

Hi Getiton, I change mine after a cold just in case.

my oxygen nurse recommended changing the nasal cannula weekly and my oxygen provider gives me a dozen at a time. You can wipe the outside with an antibiotic wipe but don’t attempt to rinse the inside of the tube as it won’t dry properly and creates a lovely breeding ground for fungi etc.
