I have severe COPD. Over the past 2 weeks I have become severely breathless and with slightest exertion my oxygen levels drop to mid 80s. I have normal temperature and no cough though when I clear my throat I do have green sputum. My chest is very tight. Could this be a chest infection? Will try for GP appointment tomorrow- just wondered if anyone has had similar.

is this a chest infection?
You’re writing as though this is unusual for you, and you’re finding your breathing much worse than normal with lowered O2.
If you have a rescue pack of steroids and antibiotics, I would suggest this might be a good occasion to use it, especially given you have some green mucus, and your other symptoms.
If you look at some recent threads there’s one all about having pneumonia without realising - I’m not saying it’s that, but sometimes we are much more ill than we realise.

Definitely phone first thing and get an urgent appointment to see your GP tomorrow.
In the meantime I’d also suggest trying NHS 111 today and speak to them to see what they suggest given your symptoms.
Sounds like an infection is brewing and having mucus that is green could be a sign or just hay-fever a sample should be checked for infection and your oxygen levels sound low so you need a gp or nurse to check you over
Hi, sorry you are not feeling as good as usual.
With your oxygen sats so low then it would be wise to see your GP today. Hope that is possible for you.
You could also speak to your oxygen nurse ?
Hope you you feel better very soon.
Go well

will try to get GP appointment today. Unfortunately I don’t have the benefit of an oxygen nurse though I know others who do 🤷♀️
thank you
Put a sample of sputum into your surgery. I hope you keep a stock of sample pots?
hi to you yes a few weeks ago l started with a very dry cough which got worse day by day and my oxogen level dropped too but only 92/3 had a appointment with nurse which l went on the emergency pack she perscribed felt a tad better but every thing came back my cough by then became very chesty and yes sputum was green ..returned back to nurse again l was on antibioctics ..only 4 days later l became very ill rang out of hrs gp sent me to a/e spent 4 days in hospital with pneumonia discharged but l was put on virtual ward for over a week on nebulisers daily too ...still recovering ...so look after yourself and make that appointment at gp and tell them your oxegen level has fallen below 90 which is and can be dangerous..take care
