Azithromycin

Discharged recently from hospital after a long period of exacerbations and then pneumonia.

After weeks of oral antibiotics and steroids had to have IV antibiotics. Next time I will probably have to begin IV immediately on flare up.

I take 250 mg Azithromycin 3 times a week and was wondering does any on this forum use stronger Azithromycin.

I have Bronchiecstasis and Asthma!

Hope everyone is enjoying a peaceful Bank Holiday Weekend.

I had 12 plus weeks on oral antibiotics and steroids, they could not clear the infection completely. Took myself to A and E and immediately put on the IV antibiotics about 4 days then, on discharge, Clarithromycin for 1 week and Co-Amoxiclav with more steroids.

Still got a cough but feeling better.

With bronchiectasis I took 500mg bd three days per week for 5 years. After this time it stopped working and there was no point in taking it. Thrown back on cipro 750mg bd for 2 weeks or IV .

I remember LittlePom saying that some with bronch take the 500mg dose 3x week. She was our resident expert on bronch, having had it all her life. I miss her. But a shame you became immune. Maybe a reason for just prescribing 250? And for having an "azithromycin holiday" each year in the summer, which Im currently on.

Hi, My wife has Azithro 3x per week. I believe the dose you take is the same for everyone. The main benefit of Azithro is the fact that it also works as an anti-inflammatory and not just anti-bio. Good luck, Chris.
