Morning all you beautiful people. Well just a follow up on my last post.
I saw my Respiratory specialist at the hospital Chest clinic on Wednesday last, and not sure how I feel at the moment, he has spoken to the doctors at Barts in London and they said I would not benefit from Lung reduction surgery as my Emphysema is all over my lungs and I only have 40% usage in each lung. So nothing they can do for me, he doesn't want to see me for about a year or so, but if I have any problems to get a referral back , which thank goodness my doctor fast tracks.
So not much hope there is there. I do have portable oxygen which tomorrow they are changing from fast flow, but as yet I don't know what they are changing it to.
I have seen how Emphysema progresses with my dad and two brothers, so I know what to expect. I am just happy to wake up each morning, and appreciate this wonderful world God has given us.
Have a good day everyone, I wish you all good health.

I’m sorry you didn’t get the answer you were hoping for, but I guess the Specialist was giving you his professional opinion in response to the question you asked him.
It is reassuring he also spoke to other lung specialists at Bart’s to cross check if his thinking was agreed with, That they agreed and didn’t suggest an alternative approach is also important.
You could seek a 2nd specialist opinion if you want to double check possibilities or alternatives if that would help your thoughts.
I wish you well with the new O2 regime, and thank you for your update on your previous post - everyone’s experiences - good and bad - here on the Forum help all of us finding our way forward as we get on with muddling our way through.
Good luck 👍
ps - love your username - I live with two crazy cocker spaniels who make me smile however good or bad the day is!
Thank you we miss our Springer Spaniel, Purdey. The specialists at Barts are the only ones that do the lung reduction in and around the London area, so no second opinion there, but to be honest as I have had Respiratory failure during my last two abdominal ops, I was a bit apprehensive anyway, so that just made my decision easier. Everything happens for a reason.
I don't get many chest infections, and I try to keep healthy, I am happy and have a wonderful family, the doctor at chest clinic says I am on best inhalers Trimbow and Salamol, I feel fine in myself, just need more breath 😃. All in all life is what you make it, keep well.
Try not to be despondent.empysaema progress varies hugely.as long as Yr doing all u can to stay well & avoid infections & irritant, well some people on here improve x
Thank you for your reply. I do do my exercises each morning with my oxygen on, and stay away from crowded places, can't stand people spitting, really annoying, no need for it.
As you say there are different levels of Emphysema I am glad I don't smoke any more.
I asked too about lung volume reduct or even endorse bronchial valves to help my lungs and my lungs aren’t suitable either-that was two years ago. Have been using ambulatory oxygen for 6/7 years now. a
However, I was offered Roflumilast which I started and have been taking for two years. It has helped me feel much better, reduces my cough in the spring/summer and autumn. I haven’t had any bacterial infections during the time I have been taking it. You may like to bear it in mind if your condition deteriorates over coming years.
I love your positive attitude and think you being so happy helps cope with life knocks. Its great that you have family around you. Its maybe not the decision you wanted but have accepted. Wishing you well x
Thank you, I try to keep positive , we all have good and bad days, no good worrying, not going to change things. Sun is shining life is good. Have a lovely day, and love life.
