Got the sputum results. They just said coliform next to it .There is no infection there .Which seems strange as he is still coughing loads and has green phlegm ! but thats good that he doesnt have one .
CT scan showed no infection either or any other nasties the report just said wide spread panlobular emphysema .Not really sure what to think ,im obviously pleased he doesnt have an infection but if there was one at least it could be treated .I just spoke to his nurse and she said she is going to come round next week to have a chat with us with all the results etc and go from there .Just wondered if anyone on here has the same (panlobular )that is wide spread .I know obviously that wide spread is not good, but how bad is it ? thanks from sam

I'm glad you got the result back for your Dad. I think its probably best to wait for the nurse to visit you next week and chat with her about the results as these will be specific to your Dad's current situation.
He has has 2 courses of diferent antibiotics and steroids for a month. The consultant said that some peoples phlegm goes green/yellow in the later stages.
I agree Zoee :)just wondered if anyone else has panlobular as apparently centrilobular is more common .
Hi Sam - we are not all aware of the specifics of our lung damage, but the wiki page in my recent blog 'understanding emphysema' talks of this, the wiki page if you want to read it is here:
Did that machine have anybody reading the results it gets will they be able to explain what is happening to your father. Surely they must give you more help than a machine then leave you alone not knowing.
Hi yes they look at the machine results daily from there end . They are keeping an eye on his blood pressure at the moment . They are not to worried about his temp being that low as long as he is not to cold .
Lets hope, the weather gets warmer Sam.
Hope your dad is up and about soon, make sure he's well wrapped up today, follow the advise of the machine people
