Hi everybody again. I was posting about PND a lot last year and I have been through an awful lot of tests and procedures to c if if was in fact caused by LPR as the ENT guy thought it was? I have had 2 endyscopys and the last one last Thursday to remove a large polyp. I have unfortunately caught an infection in the hospital . It has given me a chest infection. We have not got a respiratory nurse at our Health Centre so saw the ordinary nurse who told me to take my steroid and antibiotic as usual.
Feeling really lousy today and have got a cold too with the bad chest? Have not taken my Antihystimine today for the PND and do wonder if I should keep taking them alongside the others?
Just wondering if other PND sufferers carry on with the Antyhistimines too?
many Thanks for reading
Mona

Hi Knitter thanks for your reply. I did think about asking our Pharmacy. The chap there is so helpful so will ask him tomorrow thanks. I am getting absolutely bunged up and my chest will get it no doubt soon as that still hurts. I have done a covid test as felt SO rubbish today but it’s negative. I have been so careful this winter not to catch anything. I know it was the hospital where this came from but could not cancel my procedure or keep my mask on as it was an endoscopy !!
The nurse who put my cannula in was a bit croaky and I remember thinking O No! Too late now sadly.
Thanks Troilus for your reply. I cannot believe how bunged up I feel. Wondering if this is more a virus than bacterial but chest hurts so have decided to keep going on the Antibiotics and steroids. I had such a bad PND before this for a year. I have been down the silent reflux route hence having two endoscopes. 1st one discovered the large flat polyp so hence Thursday at the hospital. Part of me wishes I had left it alone now I have caught this. I was told tho it had to go before it turned nasty. Cannot win!
Hi Troilus, You are correct. I was informed by my ENT surgeon that steroids act across all parts of the body. I had a FESS surgery (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery) 18 mths ago and after removing a very large polyp and correcting a deviated septum but I still couldn’t smell anything. That is until I had a steroid injection in my hip 12 mths after the surgery to reduce painful inflamation. Two days later I go my smell back!
I emailed my surgeon to tell him the good news and asked if the injection in my hip could had had any effect on my sense of smell to which he replied “Absolutely, steroid injections act all over the body in reducing inflammation. He did say it may not be permanent. However, so far, 6 mths on, I still have my sense of smell even though my hip pain has somewhat returned!
It has not helped my PND (Post Nasal Drip) unfortunately.
Thank you T57. Nice to know for future reference. I had terrible problems with post nasal drip. After a visit to ENT it is partially solved by Flixonase spray and a separate antihistamine spray. He also suggested I could use drops if that didn’t cure it, but for some reason my GP is not keen to go down that route - I had to twist his arm to get the antihistamine spray and he won’t put that on repeat! How I would love to breathe through my nose and feel fresh air - so if you find the answer, please let me know 😁
I certainly will let you know. Fortunately after the hip steroid injection I have been able to breathe and smell, but I don’t look forward to returning to NOT been able to breathe the fresh again. I suffered with that since catching COVID in early 2020 and it’s horrid so I know exactly what you are going through. My nose was constantly blocked up…it’s miserable.
Perhaps you could ask for a steroid injection somewhere else on your body. I say this because all of the nasal sprays which I was prescribed, (including Flixonase), did no good for me whatsoever so I gave them up.
I sympathise with you pnd is horrid, lets hope the steroids help with the inflammation and the ab's kick in quickly, not sure what you should do about the antihistamines, hopefully your pharmacist will advise. Hope you feel better soon x
