just found out from a pharmacist friend that there’s going to be a shortage, so you might want to order some if you can

My docs have been unable to supply for the last two months. They finally got me 2 boxes this week but don't know when there will be any more. Worse- saline 0.9% also unavailable!

Scary isn’t it. You can’t even swap to ipratropium because supplies of that aren’t great either 😕

But my friend says he read in MIMS that “Kent Pharma says it is expecting replenishment from the week commencing 4th March for the 2.5mg/2.5ml nebules and from the week commencing 26th March for the 5mg/2.5ml nebules.” So if you’ve got an independent pharmacy they might be able to get you more supplies soon 🤞

Well that's hopeful. I nebulise salbutamol and ipatropium together before saline. This week they had a problem with the ipatropium but it turned up. Such simple drugs it is ridiculous that the sourcing is so bad.

I don’t nebulise salbutamol or ipratropium anymore, because since being on biologic injections I’m able to manage with inhalers. I just hope this shortage doesn’t impact those. I’ve got aspergillosis and there’s been an on-off shortage of itraconazole for many months, and posaconazole is hard to get hold of. It’s stressful when we’re so reliant on these drugs

It’s good to hear that you are doing well on biologics. These shortages are very worrying and I am sure that they are due to inefficiency somewhere in the pipeline.

Thank you Jane, interesting!

As I use nebuliser salbutamol only a little when things get worse my "stock" is OK as I have just had a normal (for me) re prescription which lasts a long time.

I was on salbutamol in the form of trade name VENTOLIN. Thenn I Was persuaded by my GP to go to Salumol which is cfc free. But I didn’t like it so asked to go back to VENTOLIN. As I understand it Salumol & Salbutamol are the same drug but Ventolin has a much more forced delivery to me. MyGP agreed to put me back on Ventolin. I suspect that Ventolin will eventually not be an option but for now I prefer it. There were other postings on this site from others who had requested & returned to Ventolin. I m conscious of cfc free being better for the planet so it’s not a decision I took lightly.
