What if I take Ventolin and it’s not asthma I’m I over medicating Any help advice would be appreciated. Lungs are clear Usually I can connect to breath to help asthma but these attacks which are frequent I can’t calm my breath

Thankyou for your time

I think as we're not medics on the forum there is a helpline during uk office hours 0300 222 5800. I see from your profile that you already have heart issues and you've had asthma since the age of 9. I wish I could help however your question is beyond me. What does your respiratory team say? Does your shortness of breath respond to ventolin? Are you sure you're using the Fostair inhaler correctly?

Answer to questions.

What does your respiratory team say? The respiratory team are fully booked owed and appointment possibly January I am currently on my emergency care plan as discussed by respiratory specialist

Does your shortness of breath respond to ventolin? Sometimes

Are you sure you're using the Fostair inhaler correctly? Been on Fostair and equivalent since 9 Respiratory nurse every appointment asks and we gave demonstrate how we take our inhalers. I have a chamber and according to specialist and the nurse I am taking it correctly.

I have a doctors appointment on 19 th with regards to my recent stay in hospital which is brilliant since there is rarely any appointments with doctors here in this area (infirmary is 30 miles away so the GPs are busy) I asked in forum in case anyone could advise b. I have had a lovely lady contact me on another feed since she is struggling with the same condition and posted we have a temporary solution until our appointments.

Phew, so glad you've worked something out. Its so worrying when you can't get professional help when you need it. ( I asked about inhaler use as my asthma took a massive downturn a few years ago when I'd been taking Seretide wrongly for three years - even though checked every review by respiratory nurse🙄. )

I asked to go back on Fostair since Seretide was not helping. They tried to use the Environmental argument but I demonstrated how it wasn’t environmental friendly and the higher cost since every manufacturer is jumping on this ‘bandwagon’ to increase their profits Unfortunately it’s my professional field for the last 30 years. So if you need to go back on fostair they will prescribe if you are allergic or Seretide is not working for you ❤️❤️

Yes, have been on Fostair 100/6 MART regime for a few years now, a game changer for me. Very rarely need ventolin, only when poorly.

A good reply from peege. I agree that you would be better phoning the helpline to speak to a nurse. I hope you get some help with your problems.

As Peege says you need some expert health. By breathing is rubbish at the moment, heart of COPD, I am seeing GP on Tuesday,- I would ring the number peege has posted,

Thankyou Ern007. One lady told me to wear a scarf round my mouth when I go out. So I’m incorporating that technique but I have noticed it’s a drastic change in tempreture. Even in the supermarkets which are warm I hope everything works out for you with your appointment. Thankyou so much for your response ❤️

asthma type inhaler are used for more than just asthma so it is helps you keep using it, breathlessness can be caused by primarily lungs, heart, exertion and anxiety so you will need to see doctors to find out your cause. You may find a visit to a respiratory physio to check your own breathing technique and if necessary teach you the correct breathing technique, most people only shallow breath

Thankyou Biker88 for your response. Unfortunately I have been a practitioner of Yoga and Pilates for 15 years and so can connect to breath usually and have a very good inhalation hold breath technique. However over the past two three months I have been struggling to connect to breath and to control the breathlessness. I have already been to the respiratory specialist who informed myself and my doctor at the time no major concerns with lungs only asthma and cardiology are an unique service in put part of the country, even following ECG,s and Ecoscans as well as CTI scans plus stay in hospital. Do you have concerns when it’s cold if you are a fellow biker ? and go walking ? what precautions do you take if any? Any help would be appreciated

I practice diaphragm breathing combined with oblong breathing as I was taught by various respiratory physios, I have done seated yoga but found linking the breathing with the movement very difficult as my lung capacity is rather low. I can only walk a few yards before getting so breathless I need to stop and rest, I tend to use a mobility scooter now. I do put a scarf over my face when it’s really cold and know quite a few people who do the same. I have also been prescribed Oramorph for the breathlessness and found it does help

I would say it’s up to your your doctors to get tests done. My sister in law has a similar problem and the tests showed a leaky heart valve so she’s now waiting for it to be corrected. She’s been in hospital a couple of weeks Hope you get your cause for breathlessness. Take care x

Thankyou Watergazer hope your sister is on the mend soon. I will have to revisit the issues with the doctors and specialists. Bit I don’t want to waste their time when there is soo many people need their expertise if it’s just a quick win ❤️❤️
