It's not surprising that you feel sorry for yourself teddyd. I've had it 5 times and each time took approx 3 to 4 months to fully recover. The most important advice I can offer is absolutely dont overdo it. Especially on days when you think you're over it and decide to do things, you'll be taking that one step forward only to fall back 5 steps. Take care, baby steps
Sorry ta hear that I'm pleased you're on the mend but don't over do things I've had freinds with that and it can take some time up to 12 months but can be lot less depends on person the main thing is you're on the mend and that's good news take care
I'm just aggreeing with everybody else and sending you some wind beneath your wings.
I had it too, it takes a long time to properly recover, months rather than weeks. You will suddenly notice you are not coughing anymore and have more energy, but it takes a while.
Look after yourself and get as much rest as your body needs
All of the above comments really, follow the advice from the respiratory team, especially the physiotherapist. Take things slowly and enjoy the time to look after yourself. Xx
Hi I was a good 3 months before complete recovery after pneumonia but had pleurisy as well .every one is different and hopefully you will feel better soon
First if all thank you for everyones kind words . I have got a telephone appointment with my gp this morning. The hospital virtually sent me home ( after 6 days) with a few days antibiotics. No advice etc etc. So I am hoping the gp can shed some light on whats what. The hospital always seem to have taken it on themselves to change some of my medication, which is for gout and my gerd and hernia. Nothing to do with pneumonia I hope the gp changes it back. Thanks again xx
I had pneumonia along with Covid and a nasty super bacterial infection back in June. I’m still recovering. It’s a slow journey so just be patient. Do what you can each day and just gradually increase on the exercise. It’s very frustrating. My asthma was sent completely out of control but gradually improving with new meds. Spiriva inhaler, Fostair and montelukast tablets. I’ve now bought myself a Flutter device which helps when the mucous gets stuck, another side effect of the pneumonia……. Don’t beat yourself up, just don’t try to run before you can walk.
Hi, best wishes for recovery. I’ve had pneumonia more than once years ago, think modern medication should help you recover. Hope your GP is helpful, and you fully get over it soon, not sure about flutter device, I use an Aerobika given me by my respiratory consultant. Jean x
Around 5 months as the bronchiectasis/asthma doesn’t help with the clearing of the infection. I had 4 months of work and pushed myself to go back though my GP wanted me to stay off longer xx take care xx
It depends on your age and how fit you are. I am 68 relatively fit and healthy I have bronchiectasis. It took about 4 months to feel like human again but I had double pneumonia and fluid around lungs. Mainly because seeing the ‘nurse and only one doctor delayed treatment. It takes time to regain strength and stamina but after 13 months I am now OK but still coughing which I rarely did before but that’s because a CAT scan shown mucon impactatation which is blocked airways. So pneumonia not to be taken lightly must rest and lots of fluids build up slowly 👍👍
