It's not one that I've taken, but it's probably best to speak to your GP about this. If they're aware and make a note on your patient notes, hopefully they can find a suitable alternative for you. I hope this is the right advise. If you've got a chest infection and need antibiotics you need to be able to have ones that work for you. You need to be able to finish the course of antibiotics so that you get rid of the infection (so I've been told). It sounds like you may have some kind of reaction/allergy? so it would probably be wise to let your GP know so that they are aware of it. Take care, hope things get better for you.

I prefer it to other antibiotics because it works for me. For me if I've got an infection it's imperative it's dealt with by a decent antibiotic. I always take it with food as advised by the gp because of GERD/ reflux.

I won't accept plain Amoxicillin although co-amoxiclave has worked in the past. I always need a minimum of a 2 week course

Hi Keith, I take Clarithromycin as my emergency meds and until last month I had not had any noticeable side effects. This time however, I seemed to suffer with most of the side effects noted in the flyer. I couldn't sleep, I suffered muscle pain and I had problems with my eating, Thankfully no problems with my breathing. If the GP tries to prescribe them again I would tell them about your breathing problems. All my side effects have now gone since I finished the prescribed course thank goodness. Take care, Maximonkey

I think Erythromycin and Clarithromycin are almost the same, I took Erythromycin and days in bed with a sick bucket.

Amoxicillin is no good for me anymore and co-amoxiclav the same.

I used to be on Oxytetracycline and along with Pred worked fine.

The powers that be changed my rescue pack to Pred and Doxycycline - not much difference to Oxytetracycline but I preferred the 2 4 times a day to the I a day Doxy.

My point being everyone has different experiences with drugs and can't help but to say, report the nasty side effects to whoever gave them to you.

All I can say to help is - Report your side effects.

Take care

If the hospital took a sputum sample for analysis, they put you on the AB that was best to knock that bug out. There may be other AB's that will do it, and hopefully don't disagree with you.
