Prednisilone

Hello, my experience with Prednisilone was very good but my GP is not happy prescribing it longer term due to the side effects. A pity because almost immediately I felt better and my breathing improved following a chest infection. I hope this limited info helps. Stay safe, Chris

It is helpful with chest infections /inflammation. I was once on it for 3 months with an ascending, leveling out and descending dose. I felt very good on it but in those 3 months I got the proper moon face, sleep became more and more difficult and gained weight.

Prednisolone also impacts on bone density several reasons I now have osteoporosis, one of them was because I was taking them at the same time when going through menopause when estrogen levels are at an all time low in the body.

I am in my first week of Prednisilone for polymyalgia rheumatica and the effect has been very quick and favourable. I didn't want them and my GP will lower them/ reduce them as soon as practical. On 15mg daily.

Yes it is great for your condition. My mother in law had the condition and prednisone was like a wonder drug she went from not being able to walk, 2 days later, dancing!

I have been on them a year and am now being weaned off them. I have noticed an increase in fatigue and low mood but am not sure if that is the cause.

Hello Chris,

I have taken those devil's tic tacs for many years. Sadly, I can never stop taking them, I wish I could. As your doctor said in the long term they bring problems of their own. If you can manage without them then try to stay off them for as long as possible. They give you a boost, but in the long run can be so damaging.

Best wishes to you.

I have been on these a few times and although they do help with chest infections and my rheumatoid is so much better when taking, I know that I cant stay in them due to the damaging affects they have on your bones. Hope you manage to come off them without too many problems x

I can understand why he won’t prolong them. I’m on a steroid inhaler and I have to have that but I was put onto a course of prednisolone for Aspergillosis and have since suffered from 7 fractures in my back. So it’s not good long term. I’m sure if you really needed it after a while they would prescribe it again.
