Postnasal Drip

Bronchiectasislady69 profile image

Help everybody again! Doctor being really unhelpful. I still have this horrendous post nasal drip that finally I have discovered by going private to an ENT chap is silent reflux. I am having an Ensoscopy on Friday to determine it is my Hyitas Hernia playing up. In the meantime my post nasal drip has gone into overload since my covid jab? I have been on Fexo 180 for it but effects wearing off now so wondering if anybody has any alternative medication suggestion. My doc says she cannot help me as my respiratory nurse perscribed them!! She is off with covid so never got my appointment. My Health centre is absolutely unhelpful and bloody useless

Thanks for any advanced help

Hi Patk1 Thank you for your reply. Yes the Fexo 180 is an antihistamine that I have been taking since June time. It use to give me quite a few hours free of this horrible post nasal . I think I have been taking them too long as they only work for about 2 hours now ☹️ I do have a steroid nose drop too

Best wishes

I have chronic rhinosinusitis.

I'm prescribed dymista nasal spray & buy loratadine antihistamines as the doctors won't presecribe antihistamines any more! I find that sterimar nasal spray helps along with steam inhalation. I put a couple of drops of olbas oil in a bowl of boiling water & a towel over my head to keep the steam in.

Hi Littleeak

Thank you for your reply. I have had this post nasal drip because of having silent reflux. It’s horrible. I will look into Dymista spray and also your Antihystimine. I have got a Neti bottle and saline solution.

I did have it under control with my Fexo Antihystimine and a steroid nose drop. Since I have my covid jab last Thursday it’s gone off the scale again?

Not sure whether to blame the jab or not?

Stay safe

Hi, I find Sterimar works well.

Have you tried Neilmed nasal wash? I find it helps enormously and now just use it every couple of days for maintenance. Easily available at Boots or Amazon and I'm sure other chemists will sell the initial pack plus replacement sachets of the saline. Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you. Keep safe.

I too have bronchiectasis and nasal drip. ENT Team prescribed (Mometasone Furate Nasal Spray 50 micrograms) which has helped. Check with your GP though. A friend told me her gastro consultant advised she cut back on dairy products, which I have been doing for several months now (lactose free milk) and it seems to have helped.

Hi there YummyBear yes that is the nasal spray I have been given. I also have put myself on a Dairy free diet too . I was shocked to hear tho from my Gastro doc that I have osteoporosis and it was due to all the steroids I have had to take every winter with all my chest infections! I feel at present I cannot win. It’s a really horrible thing to live with. Clearing your throat all the time and the nose constantly dripping into the throat. I too have Bronchiectasis so it’s a double whammy.

Best wishes to you a fellow sufferer.

I seemingly have mild bronchiectasis, found by pure chance in 2020 having had a cough for 37 years after whooping cough! I have not had any follow-up with the Respiratory Team since 2020. I have rescue packs of antibiotics but rarely need them thankfully. However, I rub a blob of Vapour Rub on my chest area each night and I rarely suffer. It is the nasal drip that is constant and for which I work at keeping at bay with using the spray and cutting back on dairy.

I myself has sinus and nasel drip for 35 years I had everything off the docters mostly sprays were rubbish saw ent consultant he said the sprays I got from docs weren't strong enough so he give me amvanys spray and that was in June and upto now its not as bad still dripping down but I can live with it I also have reflux and on laprazole hope you get sorted

Hi Germantaran o my goodness poor you 35 years of this! I have had this for most of 2023 and that is enough for me. It has really really got me down. Doc kept saying it was an allergy only which was completely wrong. The ENT guy told me it was being caused by acid in my throat. I have respiratory reflux. I am hoping that it can be fixed by an op on my Hyitas hernia that has enlarged and being pressed on by my osteoporosis.

Glad you at least have been given a stronger spray so that you can live with it.

Best wishes to you

Hi, I have hiatus hernia and reflux, plus asthma and allergies and rhinitis. Hard to manage.

Here is my current regime which seems to be helping - omaprozole for reflux, nasal wash twice daily to rinse out allergens etc. asthma medication fostair twice daily, antihistamine once a day am, and montekulast in the evening.

I also started low dose immunotherapy for moulds and fungus allergy a year ago and at last begin to feel an improvement. I do have a prescription for nasal steroids but found them of limited use.

Would definitely try using nasal wash. Drs. aren't always the best as they tend to prescribe medication.

Hi Strongmouse yes you too have a lot to put up with too. I don’t know about you but it feels like it’s 2 battles. One with our lungs and the other with Hyitas hernias. My post nasal drip at present is truly horrendous although I have struggled with it all through the summer it has not been quite as bad as this. I think I have become immune to the Fexo 180 which I believe happens? Also the steroid nasal spray also. My Health centre did ring me back in the end. Only the nurse though and bless her tried to be helpful but ended up saying nothing stronger than the Fexo so carry on and take Sudafed tablets too. I have bought sinutab instead as they are non. Drowsy. Took 2 yesterday and they helped a bit. I do have a Neti bottle with strong saline sachets and use that like you twice a day and then put in the steroid nose spray. I did have it under control but this last week it’s been horrendous. I have to go for an Endoscopy tomorrow and do wonder whether stress plays a part too?

Glad to see you have got some improvement from this horrible thing. I have always had bad chests in the winter but have never had anything like this before. It completely spoilt my summer ☹️

Thank you for your reply
