I have phlegm stuck in throat added to that a cough which is a very loose cough. I do cough up phlegm every so often. Taking 6 carbestine a day. Not sure they work. But at least loose. Is there any thing else the doctor could prescribe. Otherwise very good health

Seen 2 doctors who reccomend carbestine as does my consultant.doing the huff exercises etc. Sometimes brings it up. It's more the coughing I'm finding a problem it's so annoying. Not used to coughing
Consultant says been lucky not having phlegm and cough all these years. Not coughed or had phlegm in 10 years. Consultant did ex Ray's which showed nothing .
I had dreadful phlegm for a year and then it just went. No rhyme or reason to it. I know what you mean about the phlegm stuck in the throat. It's horrible, makes me feel like I'm choking
Try hot green lemon tea SC1, the hot green tea has has a soothing effect and helps break down the phlegm as does the lemon ,hope this helps, sorry but all I know about carbocistine is that its just one of a range of medicines to thin the phlegm down so it can come up easier
Is this an ordinary green lemon tea which you buy from the supermarket or is this a weight loss with probiotic tea which is purchased from the chemist?
The thick phlegm can be a strain to get up, the hot green lemin tea just seems to loosen it and break it down , I use twinning green tea with lemon and ginger
I do too. just like it, also with Honey. The Carbosytine works well, taken 3 a day for years, have dry Lung, No Air, but no Gunge. Hope your well SB. XXX C.
I'm coming round after several rescue packs I've had to use since winter, phlegm is my nemisis carolina but that's a battle I'll keep fighting ,its what I do .
I hope your ok and feeling better , summer I hope will do the trick , I know hubby looks after you .
Hi Hun, Here also Nottingham, Great Sunny Day, I'm in the Garden, Hubby Mowing The Lawn, Nice glass of Vino. MR Whippy Ice Cream with a Flake in. Then later the heavens Opened and it Lashed down. Still The Flowers Opened their Petals to Drink the Rain. Ha. Lets hope it is Good & Sunny Tomorrow. Stay Well Hun. XXX C.
Hi, I use ventolin first, then saline through my nebaliser then Mr huff and puff as I call it, (arobicker) that the hospital gave me every day, calms the cough and brings up the muck.
If it was me I would drink lots fluids and stay away from dairy products. I'd use the active cycle of breathing too. That's a pain, hope you can get rid.
I was prescribed Fostair 100/6 inhaler, I take 2 puffs twice a day, one in the morning and one at night, I was also prescribed carbostiestien, I'm not sure if that works as my muchas isn't that thick, the respitory nurse told me to stop using it but I'm not so sure, I will see how it goes, it certainly seems a bit better with it, the inhaler is definitely working though, and I have the blue inhaler for any emergency, however a nurse from the lung foundation told me I can use the Fostair as an emergency, as long as it's the 100/6 and NOT the 200/6 so I will monitor it, at the moment good days and bad days, like everyone I expect. Because I'm all quite new to it that's a pain, because when I get a really good couple of days I think to myself "great things are looking up" then I'm bought back down to earth, so just learning to live with it I guess π
That's difficult having lots of mucus to get rid of ,6 carbocysteine a day is a lot also loosening any mucus stuck,I initially took 6 a day but now have 3x 1 tablet a day and use a acapella device once a day and 4yrs on ,what a difference it has made.
Hi Spacecat1 . I, too, get lots of mucus and Iβm on 6 Carbocisteine a day. I finally found a routine that gives me relief so hopefully sharing it will help you. I take a puff of ventolin inhaler followed by neubilised 7% hypertonic saline, then I do airway clearance (flutter and ACBT). This helps keep on top of things. I was advised to drink lots of water, or other fluids, as it helps thin the mucus too. I have to say I was a bit sceptical but since Iβve been working from home, I am drinking much more and I am more comfortable. Hope this is somewhat helpful. A lot of it is trial and error. Take care.
I don't want to get you into bad habits, but professional singers gargle with a small glass of port to clean their vocal cords before a performance, and it works for me. You have to decide whether to swallow or spit out!!!
I know it's a while ago you posted this but only now seeing it. I had problems with phlegm sticking in throat and causing a panic attack. Anyway a couple of weeks ago I posted my daughter had bought me Covonia herbal mucas cough syrup. It is fantastic for loosening the phlegm .it has liquorice in it. Try it as really is fab.works for me. .xxSheila ππππI also take Carbosisteine 3 times a day x
Hi Spacecat ,do you have a nasal drip at back of throat ,I get this a lot specially in winter ,I get continual nasal drip ,I use boots hay fever relief, otherwise I get lots of phlegm stuck in my throat all so gargling with a bit of salt water helps
