Luforbec

has anybody had there fostair replaced/swapped with Luforbec? I’ve received a text from my GP practise informing me that my fostair will be changed to Luforbec…..this has not been actioned by my respiratory nurse, I have not been consulted. Wonder how others have found Luforbec, particularly if it was to replace fostair, is it as effective as fostair for you? Thank you

Hi Yeo58, the pharmacy changed me from Fostair to Lufobec and it didn’t suit me. My respiratory nurse had them change it back to Fostair and the GP has a note on my records not to change it. Apparently it’s the new alternative to Fostair and is supposed to be cheaper and greener. I have seen quite a few on here that have changed to Luforbec and it suited them.

I am sure most of these changes are down to cost rather than climate. If you are not happy with it tell them to change you back . I think its really bad that they just do this rather than inform you first x

I agree, cost will definitely be main reason…..I find it very unsettling when GP practise just change my meds, particularly this time as there hasn’t been any conversation about and I haven’t been given the opportunity to ask questions!

Hi! I had mine changed to Luforbec with no information why. I was also cut down to half the dose. After a lot of consultations and talking to my Dr I have found that the Luforbec at the same dosage I was on is the same as having Fostair. Apparently Fostair has got too expensive for the surgeries so they are changing over to Luforbec. I think the only drawback with Luforbec is that you have to keep it in the fridge. Not good if you want to go on holiday. It took me having problems before I got answers and put on the right dosage.

They just wanted to cut me down from steroids because I’ve already had fractures but my lungs wouldn’t let me. They were trying to get me to have 100/6 instead of 200/6. I had a bit of a fight to get back on it but not before my breathing got really bad.

The dosage is the same if your resident pharmacist doesn’t decide to cut you down. Just check the dosage when you get it.

To the best of my knowledge like Fostair, Luforbec only needs to be stored in the fridge until you start using it.

Thanks for telling me that. Somewhere in my mind I fancy remember being told that. It’s a bloomin nuisance when I’ve settled the cat down and I’ve got to go out and use the inhaler.

I'm still on fostair but only keep my spares in the fridge, not the one I'm using. Hope you get on ok with your new inhaler.

I never stored Fostair in the fridge. Only the Luforbec which they told me too.

I admit it is when I settle the cat down, get into my bed and remember. Oh No! I’ve forgot my inhaler.

This change happened for me too. 2 days on this new Luforbec inhaler and I was admitted to hospital with a suspected heart attack. This inhaler is NOT exactly the same as Fostair. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. It has the 2 active ingredients, yes, but the propellant contains an organic acid called Maleic Acid which fostair does not have. Lots of people can have a reaction to that compound. Demand that you're changed back.
