Goodness, a big move, Canada is huge! I think I've noticed a couple of Canadians on the forum.

You could always Wikipedia the town or village in Canada to see what information come up or Google maps, I'm always doing that when a place is mentioned in a book I'm reading, it's so interesting. I think they have an insurance system like America but not sure. Then there's French speaking or English speaking areas. Exciting.

I lived in Stockholm when I was younger, I loved it and never noticed the shorter daylight hours in winter as the white snow made everything bright. Mind you, I was healthy then. Good luck

Thanks for reply, mind you I can't ever see it really happening on a permanent basis x

you could give it a try for a few months? Thats if you could safely leave your present home or do what I did. I sold my last home & paid of large mortgage, rented a flat in Cassis South of France where my son & daughter in law lived for six months. It was beautiful but the wrong place to integrate with the locals - they were sick of tourists, day trippers & second homers. I drove back to England & bought in the Cotswolds although in a few weeks I'll be on the move again

Well done you Peege, think I am past that stage now but do envy you having the energy and good health to take that on x

I wish I still had the energy ! This selling up is so stressful, I've had a sold sign outside my house since July! I have CFS so have to pace myself, it's an utter pain in the b*m. Yesterday a negotiator wanted two weeks from exchange to completion! My BP shot up to 180/106 with with the horror of packing up a three storey house & garden. I never ever want to do it again. On my knees to be honest , keep deep breathing and repeating over & over "it will be alright". ร—ร— P

Yes keep deep breathing. Do you have a partner or family to help with the packing? I know what thats like I moved 9 times country to country over a period of 10 years and became quite blase about the whole thing but that was 40 years ago and dont think I could pack a suitcase now lol x

I'll be moving near my youngest who has 1, 3 & 7 year olds, cannot wait to be a proper granny. My kids all live far away although my son has offered to fly over to help plus some dear friends have offered. I live alone (& a bit too self reliant for my own good ๐Ÿ™„). Thanks Izb ๐Ÿ™ ร—ร—ร—

Hi Peege, yes very stressful indeed but how lovely it will be once you are settled and have the support and indeed be a family. Removal companies offer the whole packing service now, at first i was horrified by this idea but once a few friends had done it and raved about the service i would certainly do it. Like you i am too independent for my own good even when i know i cannot manage!! I set targets, like prune my wardrobe, not worn it for ages, doesn't fit well, not a good colour then into the charity box with it. We all have too much stuff, it is cathartic to prune it down....will you really need all that kitchen/dining room/spare bedding etc etc anymore? You need to be ruthless but it's worth it. Keep a charity box in the spare room and fill it slowly but surely, check your bookshelves, keep the best and prune the rest....do you need all those cooking/gardening/novels? Once you begin the roll you start to enjoy it. Yep, i have moved over 30 times up to now, but been in my present house the longest ever at 16 years, still keep a rolling charity box going though. Good luck with the move, hopefully the excitement for your new life will spur you on to clearing your old.

bless you you're a 100% right. All ththe bedding, fabrics collected over the years, lovely clothes I'll probably never get into, years of children's art work they don't want and books! Lovely books, there's a Red Cross book shop around the corner๐Ÿ‘. Just today I asked the removals man to do the packing as I was awake half the night worrying about it. I'm downsizing so it just gotta go. Thank you colour passion -- and Currygirl, so sorry I seem to have hijacked your Canada post ๐ŸŒน

What an adventure and something to look forward to Currygirl.I would think there are tools you could use whilst over there and imagine there are people who have lung problems just the same as we do here. Wearing things like a snood to cover your nose and mouth if cold. I wouldnt think you would be going out for walks in the winters they have over there. I have read that they have to leave heating on in their garages for the cars to stop them freezing up as the winters can be severe but that may depend on where you live. Good luck to you I hope things work out for you, please keep us updated x
